I've been an LVN for a few years now. I'm wanting so desperately to transition to a RN but am having trouble finding a program that fits my schedule. Most programs locally encourage you to work a MAX of 20 hours a week and the program classes and clinicals are during the day. I can't survive on 20 hours a week. I need to work full time but I really want to go back to school but I keep running into road blocks. Please, any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

You're not alone. It took me awhile to find that first one too. I was beginning to wonder if anyone would ever hire me. But keep pushing forward, one will come along. I think finding that first one is the hardest. Keep your chin up!

$20/hr in Southeast Houston area

I'm new to dialysis and also a new nurse. This is my first job in the medical field. I started back in August of this year. I'm almost to the point of where I'm considering quitting. Would really like some honest input from some dialysis nurses and pct's. I've been through 12+ weeks of training and I can't keep up with getting patients on and off the machines in a timely manner. Things like the p&p's that I was taught in training to do correctly almost never get done by the other nurses. They can get there pt's in and out on time but soooo many corners are being cut. Is this just the life of a dialysis nurse? I got into nursing because I wanted to do pt care, not just get them on and off as fast as I can so we can leave on time. It's like a mad house all day long. Constant chaos. It's rush rush rush, things get missed, not done, procedures not followed, I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do. Your thoughts please!

Our school is strict on the ml vs mL thing and other abbreviations also. It's not exclusive to your school. I know how you feel though, in the beginning I was overwhelmed with everything and was thinking " what did I get myself into ". But it will get better. Not meaning easier, but it gets better. I had to learn how to manage my time and once I got that down, it was better. I'm less than 3 weeks away from graduation and I never thought I would make it. If I can do it, anyone can. Keep your chin up, stay focused on your dream and keep believing. The time flies by and you will be a nurse before you know it. Study like you mean it! Good luck future LPN

Not sure about Cali but here in Texas it takes 48 hours before that log on thing will work. And for everyone I know it has been accurate. I just took the pn exit hesi and passed. Did you take the exit hesi? I know not all schools take it so that's why I'm asking. If you did take it how is the NCLEX compared to the hesi? I hear that if you can pass the hesi the NCLEX shouldn't be too much of a problem. Any truth to that?

I 100% agree with everything LPN504 has said. I'm currently 5 weeks away from graduation and what she (LPN504) is saying is true. It's definitely more than 2-3 hours a night and you WILL live/eat/sleep/breath nursing school while you are in it. I'm not trying to discourage you but you wanted the truth, it's not easy but it is most definitely doable. It's just how bad do you want it? There are some students who like to party on the weekends and etc. that are very content to just getting by in nursing school. For me just getting by isn't enough. We go to school Mon - Thurs but I have a book in my face 7 days a week. I have friends I haven't seen in a year because of school. But I know in the end it will all be worth it. If you want it bad enough do it!
