GPA... 88-89% cGPA 76-78% ... don't quite recall. However, I had some unique experiences that I put into my essays such as being TA in anatomy/biomech, dissecting human cadavers and teaching on them for several years, and I'm a CSCS... so its not always marks!!

Got into Mac today!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

My conditional offer was that I simply completed my current courses - no specification of grades.

--> OUAC website says this is fine. I accepted Western and declined York today - one more seat for York! Still waiting for Mac (the only start acceptances early April) - I'll only start to worry in the end of May/June. Seats open up all the time! Q: What sorts of acceptance deposits are people paying?? Western was $0 (phew!)

For western I had an email on a Friday around 5pm, it said to check my student centre regarding my admissions. I had a package express posted to me for the Monday.

Was accepted to York a few days ago in addition to Western.. still waiting for Mac. They really only start in a month from now - I can't help but stress since its my #1 choice by a landslide. Fingers crossed!! GPA in last ten units was 89% and about 78% cGPA for those who are wondering.

yeah definitely call them - one of my pre-reqs is ongoing right now and I was accepted two months ago @ Western. Also was accepted to York.. waiting on Mac. Q1: I was wondering if anyone went to that Accelerated Nursing event York had in October/November?? What did you learn? I need to decide whether to pick Western or York right now, and I have to do some research yet, but: Q2: I was wondering other's thoughts on York vs. Western. They are both an 1.5h drive from where I live, and I feel like going to Western could be better for getting more desirable placements since there is so many TO hospitals pooled with so many students in the area that I've heard this was an issue in the past (maybe my logic is totally wrong here). I *REALLY* want to get a job in Waterloo once I graduate, and I know that the preceptorship placements tend to lead to jobs, especially with the New Grad Initiative - hence why I am dying to go to Mac. Each school's placement agency has a set pool of hospitals defined by their geographical proximity to the school. Trying to get placed at a hospital not within out agency's pool is pretty much impossible I was told.. I was even told contacting the hospital yourself is "academically illegal" and "goes on your record"... from the wonderful meeting I had with a person from the Trent nursing program last year.

Not too sure on your stance here, but I know what document your referring to, which just jogged my memory that the pass rate for 2013 was no where to be found for Trent at the time I had applied. What are we to make of that, then, if the rate wasn't included? Also, the exam is independent from the school institution, I agree, however its not totally irrelevant, nor independent from the materials learned while in school. A 10-20% drop in NCLEX pass rate may demonstrate this. Furthermore, passing NCLEX doesn't lead to automatic employment, which is it's own issue. Hey all! Ive applied to Mac, York and Western. I was accepted to Western Feb 19th. Average is 89% in last two years, and maybe 78% overall. I think Mac takes their time sending out acceptances ... *fingers crossed* I see a lot of people interested in Trent... I decided to look into nursing mid march last year, and since Trent was the only program open, I applied at that time (and decided to research different programs later). I got in maybe 2 weeks later. I decided not to go for several reasons. I had a meeting with a core staff member at Trent who was trying to scare me into not taking 'higher level' pharmaceutical courses, had no clue about their school's NCLEX pass rate, employment rate.. nor cared to help me find that out. This person had an overwhelmingly strong negative perspective on most of the discussion points I brought up. I walked out of the offices feeling belittled, as well as my father who had come with me. Sure, this was *one* person, but this person also handled/advised EVERY student going through that program personally for several years already. I decided to take a year off, and wait to apply to schools with better reputation for how they treated their students, and the types of jobs those students earned after their pinning. I strongly encourage applicants to VISIT their prospective schools, and sit down privately with a program coordinator, etc, to get a better idea of the reputation of the school, staff, and their outlook and point of view of the importance of their student's clinical placements and academics. If your school doesn't encourage you to pursue your goals, or challenge you to challenge yourself, thats a big red flag to me. ****PLEASE NOTE THIS WAS MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH TRENT, AND IM OFFERING THIS INFORMATION TO TRY TO HELP OUT OTHER STUDENTS THAT ARE IN A SIMILAR POSITION. @darkheart91 @Maky @nursing2015 To be completely honest, I did SIX YEARS of undergrad (switched majors.. blah), cGPA is maybe... 78%, last 10 credits is 89%. My #1 school is McMaster though, so I'll have to wait a bit longer to see! They only begin to admit around the end of March I believe. UWO gave me until March 20th to decide, so I'm going to hold out till last minute to hear from Mac. HAS ANYONE ELSE APPLIED TO MAC?

Hey jesibear! I'm glad someone found my thread! I'm 99.999% sure that Western is simply marks based entry with no supplemental applications. I had called in a while back and I guess last years average GPA was 82-83%-ish. Would you consider applying to McMaster? Seems like it would be in the right area for you?

This is such a tough one, and I applaud you for posting this! Everyone has such personal answers, and you never know what angle to take with questions like this! I know the struggle! I can feel your passion through your writing, and its fantastic. Most of your examples are very good and demonstrate some of your recent experiences and knowledge of the career. This is key! Your demonstrated an educated reason for pursuing this career. A+! And now for the not so good.. bear with me!! There is a small part of me that sort of...cringes... when I read about the childhood experiences. I'm not saying it's "right" or "wrong," but I wanted to you to know that was my gut reaction when reading it. I think if you could possibly take a more professional tone, while maintaining the passion, you would be totally set! Perhaps tone it back a bit, with more examples that display more insightful reasons why you want to be a nurse. I'd also suggest backing off the literary devices a bit as they seem a bit dramatic and over used, and perhaps try to avoid the use of so many commas (it breaks up the sentences too much that it is visually hard to read). I'm totally guilty of the over-used-comma-syndrome when I'm portraying a natural voice too! I hope this helps and I'm sorry if it was hard to read... I have the best intentions!

Hello everyone! Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process! I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course. Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!) So far I have learned: - avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard - 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively - make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum) - use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average I'm wondering: - what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though) - where your applying, and why - favourite schools - your potential supplementary application details - what are your concerns, or questions? Seems like were all on a roll today! I was admitted to Trent today (despite my super late application...phew). Interestingly enough, the email they sent me was an offer of admission, whereas the "My Trent" website said it said "admittance conditional". Anyone else encounter similar situations?

Congrats to all that have been accepted thus far! I was late to apply this year, and only was able to apply to Trent. After some research, I'm actually very excited about this school, and am wondering: - if anyone has accepted Trent Compressed Nursing - if you were offered a place in TCN, how long did you have to accept your offer? I'm trying to figure out how many spots have been taken so far, and therefore my chances of getting in considering my late® application. Thanks in advance!
