  1. The bsn has more to do with the ANA's recommendation to get 80% BSN rate by 2020 bc they feel as though nursing needs to be a "profession" based on education and not a career. Or something like that. I've worked in magnet facilities and they do not require a BSN necessarily to work there. The facility I work at now is pushing bsn and was claiming "it's a magnet requirement" with everything... All the way down to basic washing your hands. Myself and a few others who have been employed at other facilities called bluff on their philosophy of "bsn is magnet requirement" and they've finally come out with the statement that it's an ANA thing rather than a magnet.
  2. Holy crap guys! I just had my courses officially "shuffled" last night so I knew what I would be getting this term. I just took the PA for Carr of older adult... Feeling discouraged... I failed it by 1%. Im remembering how test taking was difficult for me :/
  3. You need to eat!! I picked up waaaaaay too many students or rushed them out of the room pre-faint when I worked in the OR!! it's dangerous on so many levels. Actually had a student argue with me after I caught her in mid fall going for the sterile field and corner of the OR table during a c section. She argued she was fine, i told her about my role as circulator and she was not allowed back in till she ate. It will get better as you get exposed to things. But you definitely can't go that long without eating... Until you graduate and start working!!
  4. 1. Iowa (that tells you alot about the next parts...) boarder community 2. 6 years RN, 3 years LPN 3. float RN in community hospital setting, approx 150ish acute care beds 4 my base is 23.16, but I get $3 /hr more bc I float. 3 of the 6 yrs I've worked there we've had our pay froze, 403 match taken away the last 4 years, now they've cut back on our PTO accrual ability. 5. Eve diff, nights and weekend is a whopping $1.00 no matter what you work. 6. Union??? :oThat will LITERALLY get you and your co-conspirators fired! Not kidding, it's happened several times. (and it's legal due to Iowa labor laws) Ah... Nursing in the great state of Iowa... And my facility is trying to obtain the "awesome" magnet status
  5. I worked OR/PACU for three years and LOVED it. It was where I always wanted to be... Until I started a family... It's didn't work out well with call, varied hrs, etc once my daughter was born so I had to make the painful decision to leave. However, if you enjoy it and stay there long term, you could become a RNFA, obtain your CNOR, be a scrub nurse, charge nurse, department educator, or heck, even a supervisor. Several of the RN's I worked with also served on the R&D and implementation of our Emr interface for surgery. It really comes down to the size & abilities of the facility as to how far you can advance, obtain RNFA and other specialized training. Good luck! Hope you love it, it's a HUGE learning curve that will take a good chunk of time to get the hang of it, it's a whole different world but an awesome one!!
  6. Thanks for the encouragement and tips I've been told my several ppl to buy the perrla
