  1. I'm not as far into my nursing pre-req's as you, but I know exactly what you mean when you suddenly realize that nursing is what you want to do. I too never could decide all through high school, it wasn't until I had my kids that I realized I wanted to be a nurse. I'm also a little worried about not being able to handle the gross stuff that goes along with nursing. In particular, eyes and brains creep me out! I really don't want to be working on patients whoes eyes or brains are falling out of their head. I also feel I would have a hard time dealing with dead babies. Since I have children of my own, it just hits really close to home when I see parents lose their babies. That is something that I will really have to work on if I want to go into L&D. I do think that with time you will get used to seeing blood, and other "icky" things. Personally, I also think it's VERY different seeing someone hurt in a movie, book, or on TV than when you are actually dealing with it in real life. When you have someone in front of you that is bleeding and needs your help, it's easier to look past all the blood and focus on what needs to be done to help. Just hang in there, I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck to you in nursing school!!!!!!!!!!! Aubrey
  2. Just curious... How much does all of the start up stuff cost? Aubrey
  3. I'm in a very similar boat as many of you. I just started Chemistry yesterday, and I'm feeling a little nervous about it. When I first went to class yesterday though, I was sick to my stomach I was so nervous! My instructor turned out to be really nice (and cute too!), and the class is packed full of women wanting to go into nursing. It's kinda tough sitting in a room with all of my competition, but I'm glad that it's mainly women. The last time I took science classes was in high school and I remember hating it so much because the guys in the class were always so aggressive and intimidating that I found it hard to learn. My lab partner is also going for nursing, but she's more lost and confused than I am! I was frustrated at first, but now I'm glad because it's going to force me to learn everything and I won't be able to lean on my lab partner to guide me through the course. I've decided I'm just going to jump in with both feet, and not even give myself the option to fail or even recieve a grade below a B. Keep telling yourself you can do it, and once you actually get there you will see that you can do it! Good luck to everyone!!! Aubrey
  4. I would suggest making an appointment with a nursing advisor. (which is different in many schools than a traditional academic advisor) My school requires us to attend a 1.5 hour informatin session prior to making an advising appointment. The information session did answer some questions I had, but I'm hoping my advisor can make it all a little more clear for me. I'm just starting my pre-reqs, so I'm still feeling a little lost with everything. Aubrey PS- I went to the infomation session a month ago and signed up for someone to call me for an advising appointmet, but so did everyone else in the room that day. Since I hadn't heard from anyone, I went directly to the nursing office a couple days ago to find out when I might be able to get in- there was a list about 15 pages long with about 75 numbers per page of people wanting appointments! I thought for sure they were going to tell me it was a three month wait to see an advisor, but to my surprise they got me in on this comming Thursday. A part of me wonders if they don't call people back, but instead wait for you to follow up to see who is serious and who isn't. Just something to consider if you sign up for an appointment during a large info session......
