thanks! yes i saw it all in the welcome packet.. did cpr class week and did drug and background check. taking the clinical calculation exam next Monday. how long was the exam? i still have to buy books, scrubs, kit, etc. i am also wondering if there is anything that should be studied/looked over before classes start

has anyone fulfilled all of the req ~ cpr, drug test, etc? also for anyone who has taken the clinical calculation exam, how was it? how long was it? ty!

I have not heard that.. I've actually heard the opposite several times - where you obtain your ABSN from plays minimal (if no) role in obtaining a job.. it's more of the connection with clinical placements. As far as salaries, that has to do with the hospital or other facility in which you gain employment, the school you went to does not determine your salary. And on the point of school recognition, NYU and Pace are both extremely well-known through-out the city / tri-state area. As I relayed in my previous post, NCLEX passing rates, tuition, location, and clinical placements IMO are the most important factors in making a decision. it's definitely a tough, but good decision to have to make. gl!

I just got a call from them too to see if I wanted to be off the waitlist and if I am still interested in the program.. I had already sent in my decline of being on the alternate list as I have accepted enrollment into another school, but seems like potentially hopefully news for others who may be waiting!

they are still 2 completely different hospitals, and you will be on different units.

Yes, I did! I got Mt. Sinai and the VA Hospital. I am guessing the Mt. Sinai is the one in Manhattan ~ around 100th st. @wyw1013 - your email specified both the Manhattan and Queens locations?

@Sjac ~ I do know that the program is 4 semesters, and as you indicated, $21,236 per semester. So that's about 85k for flat tuition. As far as the other fees, I would clarify those with NYU (email/call them). You can probably speak with a financial advisor or someone in the bursar office to confirm those fees. gl!

casual / business casual.. whatever you would like. it's a small group meeting with about 5 other students with the academic advisor - it is not formal. i.e. no one I was in a group with dressed as though they were attending an interview, etc.

Hi.. np my friend did the Pace's ABSN program in Manhattan. At the group interview we asked the faculty where they do their clinicals, and they basically listed every major hospital in the city.

Hi.. Congrats on getting into all 3! I just recently made the decision to choose Pace over NYU. 1 - the 30k in cost difference is huge. 2 - Pace is a shorter program. 3 - A close friend of mine graduated from Pace's ABSN program a few years ago and while it was extremely rigorous, she loved it and had great clinicals and landed a job at a top NYC hospital based on her network through the clinical placement at Pace. As far as name, name does not matter when it comes to nursing. It is not a field like law & business where, the colllege in which you recieved your MBA or law degree plays a roll in job placement. Receiving a BSN and passing the NCLEX is all that matters. Clinical placements are important to look into as this is where a lot of nursing students make connections which help them in job placements down the line. All 3 schools' nursing programs are extremely well-known through-out the city - I don't think name should play any role in your decision. I didn't apply to Stonybrook as the location doesnt work for me - but it is supposed to be excellent and as a public school the tuition is a lot less. IMO - look at location, tuition, clinical placements, and NCLEX passing rates as factors. All 3 schools are excellent.

the letter I initially got from them said we had to confirm enrollment with them by the 28th - I am choosing not to go, but hopefully that means they will start to send out more acceptances as the initial deadline was yesterday!

I did receive financial award letters from 2 other schools. Not yet though from nyu (though I am not attending). Did you fill out a fafsa?

Nata... try to set up an appointment with the financial aid office at the school in which you are deciding to enroll. I know that generally, second-degree bachelors financial aid awards don't really compare with first-degree awards. dee, your financial aid even if that 25k is referring to the whole year, is still pretty good for a second bachelors! definitely pay extra attention to the award letters you are given.. usually schools are just presenting the first fall and spring semesters - not the following summer or fall semesters after that, so make sure you understand if your awards are per semester, per academic year (which may or may not include summer), etc. when they say estimated cost of attendance that # is usually referring to an academic year - not necessarily the length of the entire program. It is all confusing! that's why it's really important to clarify the award letter you receive with someone from the school.

I agree with what some others have said... be practical with costs. For nursing, the 'name' does not matter.....whereas law schools and business schools pedigree plays much more of a role. try to get as much information as you can on a school's NCLEX rates, clinical placements, and post-graduate job placements, and of course current and former students actual experiences. I understand a lot of out-of-staters are attracted to NYU because of the name, because it somehow represents "New York' - but keep in mind that there are a bunch of other schools with lower tuition, excellent education, within the heart of the city. I am not trying to deter anyone, but do keep your options open especially if you have applied to other schools which most likely will put you in less debt, and can provide you with an excellent education. I spent about a week debating between NYU and another school, and when it came down to it the 30K+ difference in price played a prominent role. There are a lot of other things I can think of to do with 30k that are beneficial! I do believe that NYU does provide an excellent nursing education, just be practical and thoughtful of yourself when making decisions

I think you should get it soon, at least before the deadline at which you have to accept. Did you fill out the FAFSA for them?
