It appears I do have an overactive imagination :) . I was called in for a third interview, and was told they had one more reference to get, which was a friend of mine. They said the previous employer just gave them dates of employment. I tend to overthink things :chuckle . I got the job too. It's good to know that's all they do on a reference check, and also that I dont have to give all previous jobs. Thanks again for the information.

Hi I took my first nursing job on a med-surg unit, nights, and had virtually no orientation. I was thrown to the wolves with no support. I had two preceptors show me different procedures that could have caused harm to the patients. I talked to my manager about it, I asked for more orientation, and I was given a preceptor who did nothing but belittle me. Anyway, I ended up quitting, which my manager did not like at all. I told her I feared for my license, and need to work where they have a structured 12 week orientation. Well I applied for another job, I had two interviews, I thought the job was mine, and I havent heard from them. I was told I would hear back yesterday, they havent called. Now I am wondering, is my old manager bad mouthing me? Could they make stuff up about me and my four weeks, and make a complaint to the board? My imagination is running wild. I am so honest, I put that job down on my application for the one I just interviewed for. If I dont put a job down next time, can they find out about it? I dont want to be fired for not fully disclosing all jobs I've had, but I dont want to be discriminated against either. I could not work at that first job any longer. I had to leave to save my license and so I wouldnt be taught to harm patients. If a complaint is made (totally would be a lie, I did nothing wrong), how long does it take to be notified? Hello, I have been reading this forum and learning as much as I can from other new nurses and now I need to ask for some help. I have an interview in pediatrics/Post-Partum overflow, but it's nights and I just don't know how to transition to that if offered the position and I accept it. It's 7 on, 7 off and I just wonder how I will do. I am not a night person, how does one become one? I have children who will be starting school about 2 weeks after I were to start the position, so I guess I would sleep during the day while they are gone. When you work nights, do you come straight home and sleep? Do you then stay up all afternoon, evening, then go to your shift at 11pm, or do you grab another nap beforehand? I'm excited at the thought of actually being an RN (wait, I am one, I've just been dragging my feet all summer!), but now that it comes down to it, it's scary. Please if you can, tell me how nights are, and how you adjust and get the necessary sleep. Thanks!

In my NS, we had Mondays off, and for Freshmen, we went to clinicals T,W from 7am to 1pm, and classroom was Th, F 9-12. I didn't feel it was too many hours at all. Of course doing careplans and all the clinical paperwork, some days homework was about 3 hours a night, and studying is about 15 hours a week (for me anyway). Sophomores schedules was switched~ clinicals Th, F, classroom T, W. I too have four kids and they were very supportive, so was my husband. I couldn't have done it without their support and understanding of all the time I had to put into it.

Hello, I took the boards June 16th and passed with 75 questions. I'm in limbo about work. We are moving out of state when our house sells, and it's been listed 2 months. I hate to start some where, then quit, but at the same time I don't want to sit here and not do anything indefinately. What would you do? I love L&D, PP. Congratulations to all you new RN's!
