Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014
Hello All. Congratulations to those who got in. I too applied for Fall2014- back in October - and it's been so long I almost forgot about it so it was a bit of a surprise to get the letter today. I did get in, but I will decline my seat because I already have been accepted at the USF... So, for those who are on the wait-list - do not give up hope- after the deadline there will be a few seats that open again. Good luck in the program!

USF 2014 applicants?
Does anyone know what the nursing orientation will be like? Do we need to bring anything (id's, cash, lunch) etc? Also has anybody completed the HIPPA training yet? if so how long does it take? Also they're asking for "professional attire", so does it mean no denim? I just realized it's only a couple of days away...

USF 2014 applicants?
My understanding is that the surcharge does apply to the second degree students, but only if(1) you began your FIRST degree in 2009 (or later), (2) already have 144 credits or more and (3) completed your first degree in Florida state institution. Also you can check your status on oasis - it will show whether it applies to you. And it does not surprise me that you're getting conflicting info from USF staff- some of them just tell you what they think is the best answer - just like with orientation. Anyway, since you mentioned that you began your first degree in 2008 i think the surcharge should not apply to you.

Well, good luck with your application for fall, but i wouldn't quite yet give up hope for summer - spaces may open after 28th. As for the essay, I'm pretty sure it should be single-spaced... at least mine was. In fact I squeezed as much as i could on it and converted it to PDF before submitting to make sure that formatting is retained.

UCF Traditional and Accelerated BSN-2014
Classes begin on Monday, May 12th. UCF have already posted class schedule so you can look up your first semester classes (from curriculum). When I checked there are two classes (lectures) scheduled for Mondays. The last day of classes is August 1st. Good luck in the program.

USF 2014 applicants?
:) that's interesting, isn't it... sounds like yet another example of miscommunication between USF office of admissions and college of nursing. And someone evidently has no idea what the process is. I'm pretty sure that all new students (who have just been admitted to USF) have to attend general university orientation. My understanding is that only those who have been admitted and attended orientation in the past don't have to do it now.

Yes, UCF is terribly slow this year. USF have released their results 10 days after the application deadline... and they have hundreds of essays to read. I wonder what's the hold-up with UCF.

USF 2014 applicants?
SILVACH24 I completed all my prerequisites at HCC - last fall i took Dep, HUN, CHM and Statistics - all online except CHM. Dep and HUN are definitely a good opportunity to raise your GPA (i can recommend good professors if you'd like). CHM and STAT require a bit more work but are totally do-able. I'm sure you can get all A's with a bit of work.

USF 2014 applicants?
For those who got in for summer - CONGRATULATIONS and I look forward to meeting you on April 11th. For those who did not get admitted I'd suggest to REAPPLY! the application for fall begins in TWO WEEKS! That's an awesome opportunity to get another chance. But if you do, spend some time re-viewing your PERSONAL STATEMENT. Give it a lot of thought. Think about those three questions they ask and in answering be VERY SPECIFIC and to the point. I dedicated approximately 1/3 of the essay to each question and made sure that it flows, has an entry and summary paragraphs. Also DO YOUR RESEARCH. Of course it is PERSONAL statement so there's no right and wrong answer, but (i think) there are GOOD and BAD answers... make yours REALLY GOOD! Spend few weeks doing RESEARCH. There's ton of information online... I'm not talking about copying someone else's essay- but just general info about what to focus on and what the programs are looking for. I remember reading an interview with some director and she gave very specific points about personal qualities that they look for in applicants- in your essay show that you have those qualities. Again RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! I borrowed every single book from the library about nursing - including personal essays written by nurses and just general "advice" books and spent hours reading research papers. You don't have to be an excellent writer to have a good essay.. but I believe you DO have to be a good researcher and apply A LOT of critical thinking. Also talk to nurses - retired, current and nursing students. Ask students about their challenges - and in your essay perhaps mention how you could overcome those challenges (part 2 of the PS). Also, if you can - TAKE pathophysiology in the summer. USF allows pre-nursing students do it before being admitted. Take it if you can... and if you do - mention it in your essay too. Again, DON'T GIVE UP... REAPPLY! apparently in the fall they admit more students... also that shows your commitment and that you're serious about it. Good luck!

Although I am not sure I think the agreement you mention is for RN to BSN program. that is after you complete HCC ASN program and get an RN license you can go to USF to get your BSN. From what i heard the entry is non-competitive i.e. everyone is admitted and it is designed for working RNs- so part time and most of it is online. I don't know exactly how the Upper division program works but i don't think HCC students are given priority.

USF 2014 applicants?
I got accepted to Second Degree- my overall GPA was 3.33 and pre-reqs 4.0. Because my overall GPA is low I applied anywhere I could, but USF 2nd degree is definitely my preferred choice.

I wonder if there's anyone still with "applied" in their status. I'm guessing all have to be changed to "committee" before any results are released.
