Nurses who love their job.
susanmary I LOVE MY JOB I REPEAT I LOVE MY JOB... i work in a dedicated trauma icu 23 bed unit. work is very demanding but i can work 12 hours and feel as if i've really made a difference. trauma affects everyone it does not discriminate. its goes after the rich and poor young and old. families and patients go through terrible experiences but i've seen the "dead" walk and the rock stable die. i truely love my work i enjoy bedside nursing and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world

Nurses On Probation with the BOARD
first and formost with the last reply. it really wasn't up to the nurse manager to call a meeting for the whole staff what at the nurse's right to privacy?? i have a restriction placed on me for narcotics but it was gambling that got me there. i have a problem with gambling but i'm under contract for 3 years. the main issue with my nurse manager was privacy she had to inform the charge nurse's that i was under contract but that was all anything else that was told had to come from my mouth. the wonderful thing is that as part of my recovery i needed to tell the world what happened to me and how i managed to overcome. i did it with the help of gamblers anonymous and all the support i have gotten from my peers. so support them and give them encouragement you never know when the shoe might be on the other foot.

need help with a trach question
help please i'm in a real jam. i work in a dedicated trauma icu 23 bed at a level 1 trauma center and we have stirred up a huge debate. when a pt has a trach and goes from a vent to a atc do you or do you not deflate the cuff?? there seems to be ongoing struggle as to what is right all of a sudden. i have been nursing for 4 years and have always let the cuff down and now my new resident swears you leave it up?? i can see leaving it up when a pt is eating but otherwise aren't they at a increased risk of plugging off if the cuff is up?? thanks in advance for your input.
