Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful
UWO sent out an email today:"This year was the highest applicant pool ever with more than 840 applications and the admitting average is the highest to date. We are just now finalizing the students entering this program so you will get further information about registration, immunizations and orientation information the week of July 14"

No, Queen's didn't accept me, UWO did. But thank you for the encouragement :) I just received an email from UofT saying I've been placed in the 1st group

3.92 GPA, B.Sc. in Bio and B.A. in Psychology, over 3 years of research experience in several labs (neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and attention lab), volunteered in the hospital in high school and as a private practice assistant in university. I wish I knew why they didn't like me..

No problem! No, she only said that everyone will know by June 30 for sure. I guess those who received an offer/waitlist clearly fit what they want, those who got a rejection aren't as competitive as the rest of the pool (no offence), and those who haven't heard back yet are still being compared and considered.. so we're the group that's not quite yes, not quite no I also forgot to mention that those who get waitlisted can wait all the way through to Sept. 5th if all the spots don't fill up by then.

Hey guys, so since I haven't heard back from UofT, I thought maybe my final marks weren't sent so I called my university and they confirmed that the final transcript was, in fact, sent. I called UofT and had a lengthy conversation with someone from the admissions office. First of all, I didn't realize I was supposed to send my final marks through OUAC. What I did was go to my university's registrar's office and have it sent directly to the university. The person at UofT said it's ok, although submitting through OUAC is the preferred method. She said if I haven't received an email that they're missing my transcript then it means they have it. Second, she can't tell anyone about our spot on the waitlist. By June 30th we're all aware we're getting 1 of 3 answers (offer, rejection, waitlist). I don't recall who mentioned the whole 1st group on the waitlist would get in, but I asked her about the groups and she said that not the entire group gets an offer nor is there a ranking among the people within the group; it's more of a random process. Anyway, I hope that shed a bit of light. To those of us still waiting - I'm holding my fingers for all of us! To those who got a rejection - I'm so sorry to hear that and good job to those who already got an offer!

Let that fear be your motivator! (to bring the phone to the bathroom, shower, whatever other odd places you can think of ) Good luck!

lalalene, I have a friend who applied to UWO last year and had an 84.6 average for her last 2 years (the admission cut off for the last year was 85 or 86%, I don't remember which). She was put on the waitlist well into June and was contacted by phone in late June with an offer of admission. They told her that had she not answered the phone that day, they would have gone on to offer her spot to the next person. So you only get one phone call!! Keep your phones charged and on you at all times!!

Thanks lalalene! I haven't yet, not even a waitlist email I've been lurking on every possible website (here, OUAC, UofT) to no avail. Good luck everyone and don't forget to post if your status at UofT changes please!

There is no deposit for Western. I accepted my offer and was not prompted to send a deposit. I, like you, thought there is one so I emailed UWO and they confirmed that there's no deposit required.

Has anyone heard from Toronto yet?? Yesterday was the last day for people who got an offer to either accept it or reject it so we should be hearing back starting yesterday.

I don't know if anyone would know this, but can the fact that you accept one offer (due to the expiry day or whatever other reason) hinder your chances of getting an offer at a different school?

Hey NeuroMaz, I would have applied to Mac if I was able to! I graduated with 2 degrees and unfortunately, they don't accept people with 2 Bachelor's degrees. Regarding the PBL approach, I actually only recently found out about it from a friend of mine who's doing nursing at UWO and am quite surprised that Mac is doing it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but each student has a section they need to present and cover in front of the class and then the class discusses it? If so, I personally don't trust this approach because although you learn better by teaching, anyone can miss something or explain something wrong/not fully and then the whole class suffers. Does anyone think differently? I would love to hear your opinion about this as well.

Congrats! Mine says the same thing (although my Trent admission status got updated to 'Offered - Accepted Elsewhere' since I accepted UWO's offer)

UofT said they'll start sending out offers in April, so I'm certain there are more offers coming out soon. I'm not sure if the offers sent earlier were just to internal applicants or all applicants. Is there anyone here who's received an offer from UofT who is not an internal applicant?

Hey Meloh, I got an offer Feb 27 and I have until April 4 to accept. I will not be accepting however, as I got an offer to UWO. Best of luck! PS. A funny thing that I found is that I don't have a way to decline Trent's offer. UWO's offer on OUAC has an 'accept' option and a 'decline' option, but Trent's offer on OUAC only has an 'accept' option, so I guess I just have to let it expire. Anyone know why that is?
