  1. Thanks, I think I will try it. My daughter just started school, and this is the 2nd time she has had a viral cold. I'll try anything now.
  2. Has anyone given it to a child?
  3. Does anyone think airborne improves your chances of not getting viral infections? Has anyone used it with success? Thanks for any input. :)
  4. I am looking for any tips on reducing fever in young children. Any tips would be great. Thanks!
  5. I worked as a pharm. tech for a month. I was already an LPN. If you are a nurse, it will drive you crazy. Pharm techs FILL the prescription. I worked there 2 weeks and I was filling meds. The pharmacist just opens the bottle, looks at it, and off it goes. Noone is doubling checking the number of pills or anything. Hydrocodone is on the shelf available for anyone to access that works in the pharmacy. Bottles are left on the tech work space. It was very hard to adjust, since it is drilled in your head not to turn your back when meds are out. I was very worried working there, lots of mistakes I caught. In most states, you only need a high school diploma or ged. It was not for me, also in a busy pharmacy it is as stressful as nursing. I worked for a national chain and I was shocked at how careless meds were handled. On top of that, they paid me 8.00 because I was a nurse. Most got 7.00! I went back to LTC. I just took the job because of the hours. They let me make my schedule.
  6. I lived in West Frankfort/Christopher IL most of my life. Graduated nursing from Rend Lake College. I live in Southwest Florida now. LPN roles are very different here. We can do IV pushes, hang TPN, and much more!
  7. I have worked in LTC as a LPN. LPN's in Florida pass meds, assessments, administer meds through IV's, and much more. The RN and LPN's duties as a charge nurse are the same. At my facility, a RN was not present at night. We take telephone orders, call doctors, and anything else that may arise. LPN's take care of midline and central cath's. We can give TPN if a RN is present IN THE FACILITY. We did not do it at the facility I worked at, but it is within the scope. The scope of an LPN in FLorida is different than some states. An LPN would not be used as an aide, unless it was an emergency situation. If that was the case, the RN would to. We have LPN's that make 20.00 an hour and up. Starting out at 16.00 with no experience. Last time I checked, CNA's were not making 20.00 an hour. (even though they deserve it to). The pay is different because we do different jobs!
  8. I finally did it! I quit! I feel alot better. Now I have no idea what to do! I'm thinking about leaving nursing for awhile, so I can spend more time at home with my family. Thank you for all your advice. By the way, the DON was super nice and I am still rehireable. (even without the proper notice)
  9. I also have a question about "at will" states. I though that meant that you could be fired at anytime, not that you can quit without notice. Does anybody know?
  10. Although my situation is different, I understand how you feel. I just started a thread about quiting my current position. I am a new nurse, and unlike some seasoned nurses I will not say to "suck it up". Life is to short, and family time is to valuable. Do what makes you happy! The last shift I worked I had that "drowning" feeling. My husband and I talked tonight and I am quiting. I know there is something else out there for me. Since I am a new nurse, others might say there are ups and downs in nursing and you will get through it. I say why? Find something that you enjoy, not dread. You should not let your job interfere with the quality time at home. Hope that helps. I wish you lots of luck! It's a hard decision.
  11. I have pretty much stayed at home with my child since I got my lic. The place that I am working at is just terrible. Any place will be an improvement. I'm thinking about a doctors office position I saw advertised. One more question, if I do not give 2 weeks notice will anyone else hire me? How bad is it not to give 2 weeks notice. About 3 nurses have quit this place since I've been there. No one worked their notice, although they already had jobs lined up. Has anyone else not given 2 weeks notice? I am dreading going back there so much!!!!!
  12. What is the shortest amount of notice you can give that is acceptable? the ltc facility is currently at full staff.
  13. I have decided to leave my LTC. I really feel like the working conditions there are putting my lic. at risk. The only thing is I have limited nursing experience, and I want them as a reference. I guess what I'm asking is, what is the best excuse for quiting a job on short notice without offending the DON. The other nursing staff will understand, everyone talks about leaving all the time. Any suggestions are welcomed. I have never quit a job before just because it is so terrible there. Thanks!!!!

I found out through other nurses that they do it for state survey purposes. That way they have proof you knew correct procedure. I also found out it is the time to ask any questions about clinical procedures. We are also having a resp. therapist give a quick inservice on trach care and suctioning. I am sure it will be helpful. Thanks for your input.
