  1. I spoke with UBC this week and they let me know that we will find out about our practicum placements the first week of September. It looks like we will submit our first 3 choices and they will try to work with that, but cannot guarantee anything. The placements can either be weekday or weekend. 1 month left to rest up before this journey begins :)
  2. Hello all, I hope everybody's registration was successful this morning. Does anybody know when we find out where our clinical placements are?
  3. In regards to the career opportunities for the bsn-PB vs the 4 year, I believe they are trying to show that the PB has more advanced career opportunities available like educator and management in comparison the the 4 year Bsn. If that is true or not, I'm really not sure. As for the 4 people enrolled in the final semester I believe that would be the original cohort and it IS a bit worrisome. I
  4. I agree, it is hard to judge a school by one opinion. However, I believe there is a big difference in the quality of education between public and private schools - Sprott Shaw and Stenberg are private. I am declining my spot to Douglas RPN for September 2014 because I was accepted to UBC. It is shame because I have actually wanted to do the RPN program for about 10 years now, but waiting an entire year after being accepted is too long. I am a mature student so I want to finish sooner than later. One spot will open up on the wait list for a lucky individual :) @Kirota, you should apply to the Kwantlen Post- Baccalaureate program - it is 27 months and the majority is online.
  5. Monark, can you tell me a little about why Stenberg sucks? I have a friend who is contemplating taking the program there as she couldn't get into Douglas after applying several times.
  6. I've declined my offer at Kwantlen to accept UBC. It was a tough decision as both programs have strengths. Good luck to everybody in the program.
  7. I also received an offer today :) Looking forward to meeting you all at orientation in August. What an incredible 20 months this will be!
  8. Thank you for the advice ogormankelsey, I agree, I think I have to pay the deposit. Timing is so much in life and I think this example illustrates it perfectly. I emailed UBC admissions today to tell them my situation, but I don't have that much hope that they will get back to me by tomorrow. I imagine it takes a while to process all of the responses and there probably are a bunch of us in a similar position. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.
  9. Wow things are really moving fast now :) Asamps and ogormankelsy I have a feeling you will get an offer next week and I may get one a few weeks after that. I agree it is absolute torture, I mean we are all supposed to be resting up for nursing school but the uncertainty of this all is making it hard. Things are especially stressful at the moment because I also have another offer and have to decide. I know that UBC would be a better program, but in a way I am leaning towards my other option because I have the opportunity to work more. I got an extension on the deposit for that one so I have until Tuesday to decide. Thanks for reporting back as amps and ogormankelsey. The uncertainty will be over soon!
  10. Thank you Junoboy, I got confirmation from admissions that classes end at 2:00. The kwantlen program sounds great because it is so flexible, but I am a bit nervous about learning nursing online. Can any current students give us feedback as to how it is? Is it possible to learn nursing skills online? Thanks in advance for your input. I am trying to make as informed decision as possible about the program. I have already been accepted into the RPN program at Douglas and am on the wait list for UBC. I would say that a negative aspect to Kwantlen is the price, it will cost about $6000 more than UBC!
  11. Thank you amsamps, it is exciting! But, UBC is still my first choice so I am still hoping to get in there. I totally understand about not wanting to bombard UBC admissions and I think you are right about her waiting for some movement to happen before she responds to you. Just keep my posted when she does:) I have asked KPU for a short extension on the deposit, but I don't know if the timing will work out. Worse case scenario I secure my spot at KPU and then IF I do get into UBC I will be out a deposit (well actually two because I secured a spot elsewhere as well), I am sure I am not the only one in this situation. I think it is all just part of the game of getting into nursing school, what a system!
  12. So I have now been accepted to Kwantlen's Post Baccalaureate program and the admissions advisor would like me to let her know and pay the $600 deposit by Friday!! So, this is pretty stressful and potentially expensive as I feel I have a good chance at getting into UBC now. Amsamps or Ogarmankelsey would you be able to check in with admissions to see if we have moved up the wait list yet? I would do it but I already checked in on Monday and we hadn't moved yet. On the bright side at least I know now that I will be attending nursing school somewhere in September.
  13. I have also just received an acceptance to the program which is great, but I am on the wait list for UBC as well so I am pretty confused about what I should do. I was told by admissions that I have until Friday to decide, but there is no way I will hear from UBC by then. Admissions told me that the deposit was $600. It seems expensive, did everybody pay $600? Does anybody have any information about the orientation dates and times? I'm trying to figure out if it will work with my job. Thanks for your help!
  14. Thanks fellow wait listers. I'll check in for us next week if we don't hear anything else on the forum. No sense in all of us bombarding the administration with emails:) I feel like the list is moving fast, do you? But, I guess this is the time when it will move the quickest and then it will just be people with last minute changes. I believe most other schools have let people know by now, but we still have till June 15th for people to secure their spot and finish up anatomy and physiology if thats the case. I am now number 8 so there is still quite a bit of movement that needs to happen. What a strange experience this is being a wait lister and not knowing where you will be at with your life in a couple of months. Thank you @amsamps and @ogarmankelsey for all the continuous support on this forum!
  15. Hello wait listers, I spoke with admissions today and I have some good news! Six people have refused their offer already, therefore we all move up 6 spots. I am now number 11, feeling a bit more positive about that! Good luck to us all:)
  16. Hello fellow wait listers, has anybody heard anything yet? And for folks that have been accepted, what is the system? When is the tuition deposit due? How much is it? And, when is the remainder of the tuition due? Just trying to get an idea of when people might possibly drop out. Thanks everyone!
  17. Yes, you will get a seat! If you already have microbiology all you would have to take is pathophysiology to apply to the RN at Douglas. It might actually be shorter as you could start right away. Check out that option as well. I have met a lot of people in the RPN program that have good things to say about it, and there are a lot of mature students as well. And, I totally agree that things can just work out in a way that is better for us:) Good luck with your application! Perhaps Ill see you in the program.
  18. Hi Kirota, I saw you on the UBC forum as well. I hear you about the competition being so fierce at UBC! I got an interview, but then was only wait listed #17, so to be honest I don't have a ton of hope. I was offered a seat in the BPN program for September as well and I got my admissions offer fairly early, I believe in February, you can check my history for more detail. From talking with other students at Douglas, that is where I did my Anatomy and Physiology, most offers were handed out early. People that I have spoken to have had 12 points to be accepted. Taking classes to start off with is good so apply as a pre-psychiatric nursing student, but if you get accepted into the program, you are usually given a seat for year one and can't access the year two classes until you are in year two. Feel free to ask anymore questions.
  19. Amsamps and Ogormankelsey have you been accepted to other programs as a back up if UBC doesn't work out? I have been accepted to the psychiatric nursing program at Douglas, but I wouldn't be starting until September of 2015 (I have transferred the credits from first year). I would prefer to get into UBC though as the program is much shorter and in the end I would receive an RN rather than a RPN. Although I feel I will continue to work in psychiatric care it would be nice to have more options if I do want to change in the future.
  20. Hello fellow wait listers:). I meticulously looked through UBC's forum for the past years and I came up with the following stats for us: In 2009: 17 people got off the wait list In 2010: 15 people got off the wait list In 2011: 20 people got off the wait list In 2012: Didn't get a final number, but #13 got off the wait list on June 21st In 2013: 17 people people got off the wait list. So, I guess there is hope after all for us. This summer will be a good chance to practice patience and non-attachment. As soon as anybody hears of movement please let us know.
  21. I just briefly browsed through previous threads and it looks like people that were up to number 14 on the list noted that they were offered a position, but I know not all people post on here. I think I will accept the job and then IF I do get offered a position at UBC will have to decide what to do. How about for folks that were offered a spot in both UBC and BCIT, what will you accept?
  22. I got wait listed too - number 17! I think they said in the interview that the top ten is good, but beyond that I don't know if there is too much hope. Can anybody shed some light on this for me? What happened in previous years? Wow, I'm in such a bind because I have been offered a really lovely job with the organization that I work for, but there is a one year contract. The uncertainty continues for us wait listers.
  23. . Unfortunately, I don't think we will hear until at least Thursday. I think the uncertainty is having an impact on everybody's mental health. So, let's try to take a deep breath and get our minds off of things for a bit - until at least Thursday. I know it is hard, as it is time to let other schools know, and for those of you that will need to plan a move, I can only imagine all the details that need sorting. For myself, I have to decide on a job offer by next Monday so hopefully UBC does hurry things along. Best of luck to everybody. We will have the answer before you know it :)
  24. So now the wait begins.... I keep ruminating over one of my answers in the MMI and wish I had answered it differently. Is anybody else feeling the same? I hope they lets us know sooner than later so we can plan for next year. I looked over last years thread and it looks like people started finding out either way about 10 days after the interview. It may be longer for us because we have the Easter long weekend in there. Good luck to everyone!
  25. And then how many seats in the program?
