I Hate Psych
Let me rephrase my previous comment. "A lot less secondary gain." probably would have been the better way of saying it.

I Hate Psych
Couldn't agree more I work with behavioral adolescents. I actually love where I work. The only problem is I feel like I'm losing a little bit of knowledge every day :/. That's the one reason I'm job searching. However, if you love psyche peds may be the best thing you can do in the psyche field. The big thing with peds is there is no secondary gain for pediatric psyche cases.

Hang in there new Grads and New Nurses it does get better..I PROMISE
I loved your story. I'm a brand new grad, going though hell and back everyday it feels! I've been working within the prison system for the past 11 weeks and I'm starting to like the prisoners more than most of my coworkers. I'm also a guy which I feel is only adding to the fire unfortunately. It seems these girls have a very tight nit circle that I'm simply not welcome in. They constantly dump problem patients on me and just expect me to know how to handle it. They've told my supervisor that I'm not competent when they've disappeared on numerous occasions and left me to deal with everything that's happening. I feel like I haven't made a single work friend, and I'm a very personable individual I've never once in my life has an issue making new friends anywhere I've gone. Thanks for your story I'd love to vent more and ask for advice if you'd be ok with that?

Stereotyping Male Nurses
Ohh it never stopped while I was in school. They'd gang up on the prettiest girls in class or the smartest girls in class. The "Who does she think she is " line was habitual. I never understood why the girls were so catty to each other it was unreal.

Nursing Behind the Wall
Thank you, I have an extensive security background and just graduated nursing school so when I saw a near by prison was hiring I thought it might be perfect for me. Filled out the application got an interview and a job offer. I just officially accepted the correctional nursing position. I was surfing the web to see what kind of information I could find. I thoroughly enjoyed your article well written and informative thank you again!

Got the quick results today and I passed!! PVT isn't like it used to be and apparently the credit card page does not mean you in fact failed!

The bad pop up and a bad feeling.
I will be paying for quick results tomorrow still feel very uneasy about the entire exam in general but this does give me some hope. Thanks for providing some hope. I'll post when I get my official results!

The bad pop up and a bad feeling.
Poor guy* lol it's ok though honest mistake! I'm holding on to a little hope but I don't think I'm hearing good news tomorrow. Have you taken nclex already? If so how/what did you study?

The bad pop up and a bad feeling.
I took the exam this morning and about two and a half hours in it shut off around 130 questions. The last four questions I answered were SATA which I don't think anyone is extremely comfortable with but they were also topics I'm not particularly comfortable with so right away I felt awful I went home and sure enough the good pop didn't show. I practiced with Kaplan and my grades ranged from high 50s to high 60s with a 67% on the readiness and from my understanding these grades reflect a relatively good readiness for the NCLEX. Anyway if anyone has gone through a similar experience and managed to pass the second time around and could tell me what they would recommend? I've read something about Suzanne's plan being particularly helpful for first time failures but I understand this plan isn't available anymore. That being said does anyone know of a practice plan similar to Suzanne's and if so could you share it with me and tell me were to find it? Thanks Extremely depressed/frustrated SN

Stereotyping Male Nurses
I absolutely hate this stereotype. I'm currently a nursing student (male) and I am the furthest thing from gay. I'm one of six guys in my program only one is gay. I've never felt like I've been singled out at all for being a male student. The one thing that I do get some strange looks for now and again is that I'm heavily tattooed and have a pretty burly beard I have to win over a new group of instructors every semester but I'm relatively sure it's my look not the fact that I'm a man. Usually by the end of the first few weeks I'm well liked by the instructors and the my looks don't seem to matter anymore. There's a girl who also heavily pierced with gauges and what have you. She seems to deal with the same scrutiny at the beginning but she also seems to have no problem winning instructors over after they get to know her. We both look very professional when we're on the unit I with long sleeves under my scrubs and her with piercings removed and we both do well in clinical settings. Stereotypes smereotypes!!

Nursing School Burnout - RANT!
This is great advice! As nurses we're taught holistic care, maybe sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves in the same manner. Getting to focused on school in general can make you do a lot of unhealthy things (i.e. lack of sleep). I'm definitely take this into consideration thank you

Nursing School Burnout - RANT!
Boy can I relate. I'm nearing the end of nursing school and it has physically, mentally, and socially taken it's toll on me. I've gained weight almost 20lbs. I feel anxious all the time which is so not me at all I was a very laid back mellow person before school. Relationships? forget it I've tried and they are ruined in a month tops when I blow her of for school repeatedly. I've missed out on countless trips, family events, concerts, sporting events and good times all in the interest of needing to study. I'm sick and tired of looking at these books for days on end to barely even pass these exams that have questions that are so far fetched with multiple choice answers that all seem to all be correct. I have four more months of this and I feel like i want to run away everyday! I see you posted this quite some time ago. Did you make it to graduation? I hope you did and you can tell me that working in the field isn't actually this stressful?
