  1. Thanks for contributing to this thread! I really appreciate your comments and helpful advice. Good luck to you this Tuesday, hopefullapass! I look forward to hearing your good news.
  2. Hi all, I have been browsing through this forum for quite some time now and was looking for an updated information on how Canadian nurses prepared for the NCLEX-RN exam. To be eligible to sit for the exam, I must register for a specific state of BON to receive the ATT and have at least two years minimum of work experience. Since graduating and passing the CRNE in February, I have so much time on my hands and I feel motivated to tackle the NCLEX by the end of this year. However, I am worried about the pass rates for non-US educated nurses. As of April-June 2014, the pass rate for first time, internationally educated nurses was 29.65% (https://www.ncsbn.org/Table_of_Pass_Rates_2014.pdf). *scary* That being said, I would like some advice from fellow Canadian nurses or anyone in general regarding study materials, online reviews, and tips for success to pass the NCLEX-RN exam. Please copy and paste the following questions, post and share your advice in this forum. Thanks in advance for your help, nurses! 1. Prep books/study materials used? 2. Did you purchase any online review courses? 3. How long did you prepare/study for the NCLEX-RN exam? 4. Group study or self-study? 5. How many questions did you receive on the actual exam? 6. Any words of wisdom or motto used while preparing for the exam?
  3. Sorry to hear about your news. If your score was at the border mark, then go for it, but I would speak with someone at CRNBC first and see what they have to say.
  4. I passed! Have a great weekend everyone!
  5. I live close to the boundary of Vancouver and Burnaby area. We still have tomorrow and Monday, maybe they are saving the best for last.
  6. You're not alone. I'm from BC and still have not received my result.
  7. Mind you there were two venues in Vancouver, one was located in the Italian Cultural Centre and the other was at the South Hall Banquet by Marine Drive. I would say at least 60 registrants (Canadian educated nursing students plus IENs) per venue. Don't quote me on this.
  8. I wrote the exam in Vancouver. If we are lucky, some may receive their results as early as Friday and the rest will have to wait until the week of March 17th.
  9. Last Friday (March 7th), I dropped by CRNBC's office to provide legal documents of my married name. I was not hesitant to ask the status of our CRNE results, and the answer they game me was "expect to receive it in the mail during the week of March 17th." I feel your pain, I really do. My brother, also experienced this waiting game not too long ago and he said to expect an 8x10 envelope. These are legal documents and cannot be folded. Here's to more waiting for us BC registrants.
  10. No results yet here from B.C.
  11. Job well done! Congratulations!!
  12. I'm sure that there might be a similar thread in this forum, so I apologize in advance for the re-post. There seems to be a lack of employment opportunity for new grad RNs in the Vancouver, BC area and I have thought about combining my passion for traveling and nursing with the Canadian Forces. My initial plan was to gain at least two years experience working in the hospital and then do travel nursing in the States. However, in the province where I live, the jobs for new grad RNs are scarce and it is making my plan A impossible to achieve. Is there anyone out there that can provide me some information regarding their experience of joining CF, as a Nursing Officer, at the age of 30+ and with young children? Since I have more time on my hands, I did explore the CF website to gain information regarding the application and recruitment process, but I am looking for more personal insight from a female nursing officer. Basically, my husband is willing to support my decision if I do decide to go ahead with this career path, just as long as we have our family together. Some questions that I have in mind: - During the 15 weeks of basic training and military officer qualification period, will my family be able to travel with me in Quebec? - Was the experience a positive one for your children? - Do they provide housing close to the children's school? - Any work or volunteer opportunities for the spouse?
  13. March 17th is just around the corner. Wishing everyone the best of luck and I hope we all PASSED the CRNE!!
  14. When your instructor and preceptor provided you feedback that it was an unforeseen event, then trust that it was not your fault and you acted safely and efficiently to keep you and your patient safe. All I can say is that a post-conference and/or a briefing would help talk about your concerns. Nursing students and general nursing life are anything but ordinary, do not expect to be a superhero just take it easy and do not let this experience hold you back.
  15. I was talking to one of my best friend, who works as a CML, and has worked with the TCU manager who interviewed me. The reasons the manager provided me did not make any sense to her either since this hospital deals with non life-threatening emergencies. The Urgent Care, known as their ER, is open daily from 0800-2200. Rarely will they receive patients requiring blood transfusion. My friend wanted to help me out by talking to the manager, but I told her that I wanted to earn a RN job on my own. Validating the reasons with the manager would be useless at this point. I guess it is just not meant to be.
