  1. I was the Charge Nurse for our CCU for several years, but quit that position about 1 year ago to go back into staffing full time. ( I wanted to have a life outside the hosp.) They did not fill my position. However, one nurse is assigned as a shift coordinator (or dot head as we call them). They are responsible for making sure the code carts get checked, narcotics get counted and for making patient assignments for the oncoming shift. Yes, they do have patients to take care of also. Hope this helps.
  2. hi. i didn't really want to get my bsn either, but i did. i worked as charge nurse in my ccu for several years but gave it up about a year ago so i could have some semblance of a life! being attached to a beeper and/or telephone 24/7 was making me a nasty person. i've found that being a staff rn in the ccu is much more rewarding. and, you will have lots more friends! good luck.
