Dumbest thing a doctor has done/said to you
I had a patient on a ventilator in the ICU where we were withdrawing care. The resident wrote an order to discontinue the ventilator and titrate propofol to comfort. Huh? I was able to get an order for Palliative Care, who then came in and wrote appropriate comfort care orders. But that particular resident was furious.

considering nursing school at 45 yo
Turtlesrus: I'm 48 and will graduate with a BSN in two weeks! And I'm not the oldest in our class. You mention you have two kids in college and one who will be a senior in high school. Two of my kids are also in college. What fun it has been with so much in common! And about those younger students - they have been wonderful to get to know and develop friendships with. The age difference brings diversity and different life experiences. Go for it or risk regretting it later.

ASU 16 month program vs. 24 month program
Determined, Shows you my head has been in the books. I didn't know ASU dropped the essay from their entrance requirements. To answer your questions - I got in the first time I applied and to the campus I applied to. My GPA was 4.0; Net results: Math .94 and Reading .76. The cut off score means nothing now without the essay requirement. It makes it harder to see where you stand once you've tested. But the upside is you don't have to stress over the essay. I know several people who got in on their second or third try. If you have any other questions, let me know. Feel free to email direct if you want more specifics. Good luck!

ASU 16 month program vs. 24 month program
I'm in the 16 month program at ASU. We got a normal break during Christmas, 1 week off in May, and 2 weeks in August - the second of which I am enjoying now.

How hard is it to get into ASU?
Just a suggestion if the NET freaks you out -- You can take the NET at one of the community colleges to get an idea what the test is like and how you will score. It costs around $30. I thought it helped because I knew what to expect. You might have to be registered at one of the schools.

Age you will/were graduated?
Second career for me. I'll be 48 when I graduate with a BSN in Dec 2008 -- and I'm having the time of my life. Our class includes ages from 20 to 60.

I applied last October before the open enrollment and have not heard anything from GCC. Hopefully you will hear from them when they place the next semester.
