Hmm.. at my other place I also worked the 3-11 shift and thats when the admits mainly came in. When the report came in for the oncoming patient and it was a patient that was coming under a main doctor for the facility I would notify them and ask what medications will be given? Continue with the same orders from the hospital? etc etc that helped out alot! Because I was able to get the meds faxed to the pharmacy and be done with that part way before the patient would come in. Then with the labs also, I would prioritize which labs needs the most attention from the MD and fax those out then the rest. Then when the patient came in I would do my initial assessment and providing orientation to the room and then have the aides assist the resident/ patient with any other things they needed help with so you can finish the admission paperwork. Hopefully that helps but then again I'm not sure how your facility policy is on admissions and what needs to be filled out at the time of an admission.

When I was a treatment nurse in a LTC, my DON had me do the same thing for bruises. But when I got accepted in a Sub Acute and was doing treatment all they did was monitor bruises for increased size or any deterioration. I know each facility has they're own policy on how things are run. See if you can find out if its your facilities policy that the wound nurse is only delegated to monitor these bruises. But the charge nurse or floor nurse also needs to monitor these bruises as well but then again depends on the facilities policy. Your DON reminds me of my DON when I worked in a LTC. Try talking with the DON and let them know how you feel.

As a student stepping into the health field as a CNA, what do you look for? What keeps you awake in class? What did you like best as instructors taught? What didn't you like? What teaching style do you prefer? Visual? Tactile? Auditory? As a CNA instructor I've been told from a few students from the few times I have taught that my teaching skills are clear and to the point. I'd like to know what else can I do to provide a better learning environment? This is for any students just stepping into the healthcare field.
