Has anybody worked at CHOC's PICU?
Just landed an interview for a per diem position in the PICU at CHOC. Has anybody worked there? How was it? What type of patients did you take care of? Was it a busy unit? The per diem commitment is 4 shifts a month and I'll be commuting from San Diego and want to make sure it's worth it. Thanks!

New PICU Position
Hey! Just got a job in the PICU!! I have been working Pedi ER for the past 5 years. My ultimate goal is to become a flight nurse but I need 3 years of ICU experience to apply for that job. So now Im a little worried as to the flow of the PICU. Can anyone tell me a the typical patients you see on a PICU floor? Meds? or even conditions/diseases that are common to most PICU floors?

Canceling contract
I was kind of rushed into the whole switching companies. Alot of numbers were thrown at me. When I finally sat down and looked at what I would be making, it was extremely low. The new contract starts in a little over a month. I'm hoping everything turns out ok. I just want fair pay.

Canceling contract
Quick question! Has anyone ever decided to cancel a contract before it even begins? I signed on with a new company(current company doesn't work with my current job anymore) but now I feel like my contract pays too low. I have other companies offering me better deals. What do you guys think?

So after reading all of your comments, I have to say...I chose to fly and ship all my belongings. I got a good deal with shipping my car. My belongings will be sent via UPS ground and its so cheap! I guess I'm one of the rare travelers that hates driving long distances. Thanks for the responses guys!

Issues with housing...
Hi guys, Just started with my first travel assignment. I moved in this past saturday and the housing is great!! However, its 20 min away from the hospital but traffic before and after work turns it into a 45 min commute. Im literally one street over from the next town! On top of all this I have to pay 2 tolls on my way to work. Should i request or demand for another place closer? Or am i just being ungrateful?

Hi guys...I am in the process of endorsing my RN license from MA to TX. It has been almost three weeks and no temp license yet. Tx recived my application and check on Feb. 3rd. I called and it took them over 20 mins to find me in thier system. I am planning to move out there in March...should i be worried. Does it usually take this long? The BON website says within 15 buisness...

Pediatric Nursing
Working in a Pediatric ER I can def say that parents are the worst. Now I have no kids of my own but some parents just cant handle their kids being sick. I feel for them, I really do but when your yelling at me that I dont know what I am doing and that they read all about it on meningitis.com, I kinda lose it. Parents are def the worst part about pedi nursing...oh and little veins! lol

4 weeks notice
Thanks for all the replies guys! I have decided to give my four weeks notice this week!!! I am so grateful for everything my job has done for me! They took me on as a new grad after working in the Pedi ER as a CNA for three years. Now I'm just hoping that my temporary California license comes in by the end of the month. Hopefully some new assignments are available For March.

4 weeks notice
I have decided that I am def going to start traveling in March. I'm still waiting to get my CA licence (sent in all requirements Jan15 and applied for my temp as well). I was told by my recruiter that most hospitals want an experienced traveler and as we get closer to March, I should start thinking about traveling within MA. Now I am just really scared to give my 4 weeks notice without having an assignment...what has everyone else done? Waited for an assignment then gave your noticed. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
