Seeking Critique: FNP Personal Statement
The bulk of it is a bit negative: I hear a lot of dissatisfaction about your experience in learning to be a registered nurse. How will being a FNP improve upon your dissatisfaction? When you shadowed the FNP what specifically changed your mind? What do you look forward to most about being an FNP? What patient population excites you most? I'd like to hear more positive statements and more elaboration about your experience shadowing. There are 3-4 paragraphs about your dissatisfaction and one about your experience with FNP. Maybe you shorten what you didn't like about nursing and add in some more positive statements about "how you will improve patient outcomes as an FNP."

UAB Fall 2015 NP
Well, I have a 3.2 GPA...But, I took all my classes at UAB and UAB School o Nursing. I graduated last April, work at UAB on a unit that deals with everything Cancer, general med to psych. I had my essay proof read twice at UAB writing center, had a friend who graduated at same time and got into the program earlier proof read my essay (UAB blah, blah--Guess I'm UAB born n' bread) I'm in a national nursing honor society. I mean, I really think my essay was stellar cause I worked on it for a while. I had A's and B's in nursing school: before nursing I was a bit unfocused hence my not so awesome GPA.

Passed NCLEX. 75 questions. It's offical I am a Registered Nurse.
I made between 50% to 70% on the question trainers. I don't remember my exact scores. Kaplan questions are like the nclex, maybe a little harder than nclex.

You'll do fine! Just practice questions!

MGH2014, I really did not study pharm intensily because, before taking my nclex, I heard from many people that they didn't get a lot of pharm questons and when they did get pharmacology questions they didn't recognize the drugs anyway. I may have gotten a couple pharm questions, maybe one drug I didn't know. When I was studying nclex questions, I did look up drugs whenever I got a question and wasn't familiar with the drug. That was about as much studying I did for pharm. Just looked up the drugs in practice questions if I didn't get a question correct.

Hi ChelCM, on the 2013 practice test we got from the live review, I was scored 65% on Fundamentals, 60% on Medsurg, and 60% on peds, 80% on OB/Maternal. I was scared about my scores. As long as you understand why you got something wrong, you will be fine. In school, I got a level 3 in peds and Adult which is the highest level you can get on the proctored exams, so I was scared at those practice test scores because I thought they were low cause I was strong in peds and adults... But, remember it's just practice

Hello MGH, I though the NCLEX was similar to many questions that I have done, including ATI and Saunders. Everyone else says Saunders is easy, but I thought the NCLEX was straight forward and Saunders helped a lot. Granted, there were questions I didn't know on NCLEX and I made my best educated guess, but it wasn't tricky. I think ATI is most like the NCLEX, but doesn't have enough SATA(select all that apply questions) for practice.

Passed NCLEX. 75 questions. It's offical I am a Registered Nurse.
I promised myself that once I passed the NCLEX-RN, I would post how I studied on here because I did a lot of research from this site about what people did to pass. I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday and it cut off at 75 questons. I got the Pearson Vue "good pop up" and this morning I woke up and was surprised to find that my registered nursing license has alreadybeen posted on the Board of Nursing. I am officially an RN!! It usually takes 48hrs to post on the board they say, but I and some of my classmates have been posting our RN screen shot of the Board of Nursing with our name and RN license (excluding the license number of course) on Face book, haha. It's official! Don't have to pay Pearson Vue $8 for "Quick Results! HA! They ain't getting another dime from me, the $200 was enough!!! Anyway, I'm thankful for this site, because if it wasn't for post from people sharing how they studied, I wouldn't have known how and when and where to begin. I graduated April 26, 2014. I took a week off from school. Didn't open a book. I got my ATT and schedule my test for May 27, 2014. I started studying May 11. So, I had about two weeks to study. Everyone says to schedule your test ASAP while the information is still fresh. I agree. Some of my cohorts scheduled their exam a week after graduation and passed. One girl only used Saunders, 5th edition--only did questions in the book, Scheduled her exam May8th and passed. (We used ati thoughout school though, and she had scored a 99% chance of passing on her ATI predictor too, so that may have helped--but she only used Saunders to study for the 8 days she had between graduating and taking the exam) So Schedule ASAP! Anyway, HERE is HOW I STUDIED: I used ATI throughout school, it's mandatory at our school. I had scored an 83/100 on the 180 question ATI Comprehensive Predictor-2013 which equaled a 99% chance that I would pass the NCLEX the first time. I did not take that to heart though to mean anything at all. I still studied very hard anyway. In the two weeks between the exam I used solely: *Kaplan NCLEX-RN Strategies, Practice, and Review 2013-2014 I did all the questions in the book and on the disk *Saunders Comprehensive Review 5th edition-- I did all the questions in the book and I practiced the alternate format /multiple format questions (select all that apply questions) on the Saunders CD in study mode. That allowed me to practice only the select all that apply questions. There are 199 of those. I did all of them. Select all that apply is a weakness of mine.... *Priority Delegation and Assignment by Lacharity 2nd edition I only did chapter 1 through 18. Everyone says the case studies aren't necessary to do. I agree. MUST HAVE BOOK for priority question on nclex *Kaplan questions trainers 1-7 I don't think It's wholly necessary to do all these. I had done 1-4 throughout my last semester of school and 5-7 the two weeks leading up to the exam. I don't know if it was helpful or not. I didn't get a chance to go back over the questions I missed. *35 Page study guide someone wrote on here was fabulous!! It had great mneumonics. You should be able to find it one here but if you can't message me and I'll send in to you. * I revisted a few ATI questions that I had missed and did a couple new test, maybe 4) I did a little bit of Hurst...here and there...I like it okay. I have a good foundation in content though, and I got bored with the videos I had seen them all throughout school my 4th and 5th semester...so I kinda looked at them again, kinda didn't. I don't think Hurst videos are that necessary, but they are helpful. I know a girl from my class that passed with 75 questions only using Hurst. I didn't want to pay $300. The videos I have access to aren't new ones, they are old and borrowed, but still good. Honestly, I think I over did it. You could probably stick to using two resources and pass. The most important thing to do is PRACTICE QUESTIONS. Try to do 100 questions a day. Read the rationale and make sure you understand the concept of what the question is asking. You don't need all these resources really. I just like studying from different things. I get bored easily. Also, go back over question you missed. If you use a book, mark with a pencil the questions you missed and repractice them maybe 2 days later to see if you get them right the next time. I think that is really important to got over your missed questions and not just skip over them. If you don't get them right after going back over them again, you may miss the concept on NCLEX. Going after your missed questions is the only way to make sure you understand the question and the concept. Good Luck!

NCLEX jun 2 - ATI predictor, Prep-U, Saunders?
I found them online, but I don't think they are that necessary to pass. Used to be you could google and find it, but I don't see it on slide share .com anymore. Saunders is good. I would do ALL the questions in the book if you have it. That's what I did, and then I went over the questions I missed. Make sure to mark the questions that you miss so that you can go back and review just those missed questions. ATI and Kaplan were most like NCLEX.

Need Help with answering SATA in NCLEX
I took my nclex today, got 75 questions and the good pop up. At school we did ATI and on my predictor I got a 99% chance of passing the NCLEX the first time. I won't know officially if I passed until 48hrs I say that to say that SATA is a weakness of mine and I was worried. I got a couple on the test yesterday. Here is what I did: *Treat every select all option as true and false. Look at each option separately from the others and go through each option and ask yourself, "Is this option true or false?" Does it makes sense on its own. *Once you look at each as true and false, look at the options you've select as a whole, do they go together/ fit well together? *Practice SATA questions. I used Saunders 5th edition and in study mode there is a way to select only alternate format questions. there are 199 questions to do. *Eliminate options that say always, only, whenever, all

NCLEX jun 2 - ATI predictor, Prep-U, Saunders?
I studied very intensely... I will not lie. I had done research in this forum and through google about what people used to pass the NCLEX. Although my school used ATI throughout our program, and I had made 4 level 3's and 4 level 2's on all the subject exams ( if your school uses ati you may be familiar with that level stuff) I had read that there was a bit of discrepancy with that predictor from ATI. I don't want to scare you. In hindsight, and if for fact I passed, I think ATI alone was very helpful. However, if you do not continue to study after your "Predictor test" every day, your chances of passing goes down. So, to study, I bought the Kaplan Stratgies Book, and did 1-7 Kaplan questions trainers I found for free online. I did NOT buy the Kaplan program or Q bank because it's 500 dollar and frankly I can't afford it. I actually think that ATI questions, and just doing at least 100 questions a day and looking up everything I didn't know would have been enough. If you don't understand a rationale or the "why" behind an answer, research it, look it up. Okay, I think I over studied but I used: *Saunders 5th edition (re did all the questions I got wrong in the book. I used it to study for the comprehensive ATI already so I had already done the 1000 questions in the book, this time around, I just did the questions I marked wrong) *Kaplan Question trainers (I didn't go back over all the question trainers after I did them...didn't have time) *Kaplan 2013-2014 stratgies book ( did all the questions in the book and the questions on the disk about 600 questions) *Priority Delegation and Assignment 2nd edition by Lacharity (everyone says it's a stabple must have book...and I agree, I had a lot of what do you do first questions..." *Saunder 5th edition disk for the Alternate format questions/Select all that apply( I did all 199 select all that apply. I feel they are my weakness so I wanted to practice them. If you go to study mode, you can just select to do only those questions) AND two days before the exam....I redid ATI tests...I actually think maybe just maybe ATI would have been enough. You don't have to use a lot of resources. Most of cohort that graduated used 1 or 2 resources... 1 girl had a 99% chance of passing with ATI, just did the Saunders book questions, took the test 1 week after graduating on May 8, and passed 75 questions. The most important thing is to do questions and research and understand...really understand the concept of the rationale. I studied two weeks. The first week after I graduated, I didn't open a book, I was tired. So you can give yourself a break. But once you set your test date, BUCKLE DOWN! Take breaks here and there...but always be doing questions...

NCLEX jun 2 - ATI predictor, Prep-U, Saunders?
I got an 99% chance of passing with ATI scoring and 83. Today I took nclex-rn, I stopped at 75 questions and got the "good pop up," that's suppose to mean that I passed! :-)
