  1. I work 11-7 in a community hospital ED. I am responsible for approximately 4-6 patients. The main ED area has 15 beds, 5 beds in our behavioral health area and 6 beds in the express care area. We function with 1 doctor, 3 RN's, and 2 CNA's. If a code, trauma, or stroke comes in, usually the nursing supervisor will come down to help.
  2. Very true I was referring to a simple DUI stop. No accident no injuries etc. First offense.
  3. Congratulations on completing your BSN. From my nursing experience and what I have been told DON and Nurse Managers are more concerned with drug charges and any type of elderly abuse charges. I have a DWI charge from 1997 which I left on my record and I have obviously taken the NCLEX and securied a full time position as an ED RN, as well as two per diem positions. During your interview you may be asked about the incident just be honest. We are nurse and we are human, most people have drank in their life time. Good luck.
  4. I am a diploma RN and currently enrolled in a RN to BSN program, which I pay for. One ofthe many great aspects of nursing is the opportunity to continually advance your knowledge. As our knowledge advances so does our profession. A disadvantage to advanced nursing knowledge is that your salary does not always reflect your level of education. I believe a RN earns enough to pay for their education if needed. However, tuition reimbursement by a hospital that requires their nursing staff to obtain a BSN is another story. Just like most facilities pay for our ACLS BLS PALS CPR certs. and other certification required by a particular arena of nursing, if the facility requires you to have a degree and you were hired prior to the requirement tuition assistance should be offered.
  5. Prior to becoming an RN I worked in EMS and unless the person possessed proper advanced directive documentation we would provide full care. As an ED RN if a person presents to the ED without advanced directives they are assumed a full code until documentation is furbished to prove otherwise. As a healthcare provider, if you with hold care on a person’s word I am quite certain you will be sued and potentially be held criminally responsible. Imagine being in court and explaining how you withheld medical care because the person’s cousin said so.
