Hello everyone. I graduated last May of 2013 and I have been looking for jobs like crazy. It's been so difficult to get into the hospitals. I passed out hundreds of applications through out these months and so far the only job offer that I received was for an adult day care health center. I accepted the offer since it's definitely better than no job. But I've heard about the stories where nurses were not able to find an RN position in the hospital because a lot won't count these as experience. I do believe that many of these positions still hold the basic nursing foundations such as assessments, med pass, education, etc. as well as other useful skills such as time-management, organizational skills, prioritization, delegation, etc. These are all qualities that can be justified during the interview to convince the hiring managers that you are still capable of the open position on their unit. That being said, I'm just worried that the people looking through my resume won't even take a chance at an interview because it's not "acute-care" experience. I will be interviewing for a new grad rn residency program next week and would definitely take that opportunity even though it's an hour away. But if I don't get the position, I'd stay with the adult day care. Are there any nurses out there that had experience in such settings and landed a hospital position? If so, did you find it difficult to find and how long did it take? I really appreciate any feedback.
