  1. I'm sorry you didn't get into UTHSC but congrats on getting into LoneStar. Also just so you know, Sam Houston State University's Fall BSN program's application deadline isn't until June if you wanted to apply there...
  2. Sorry to hear that Did you get an evaluation in the mail at all to make sure they evaluated all your courses correctly?
  3. are you in the fb group? I posted a document given to me by an upperclassman that shows what the schedule for the first semester will be like. I believe its class Monday through Wednesday and a clinical on either Thursday or Friday depending on what you're scheduled.
  4. @LindsayCrowe, I am! Well, I'll be commuting from my parents house in River Plantation and/or my grandmother's house in the Galleria area. I figure the days I need to be in class early or stay late, I'll just stay the night at my grandma's. I'm actually starting in the summer so I'll keep you posted on how the commute goes! and if our schedules are similar for the fall maybe we can carpool some days :)
  5. We were referring to UTHSC Houston.
  6. The other's are correct, UTHSC only has the pacesetter now, which is a 15 month program. So I guess your decision just got harder I've been there, so I feel your pain! My heart said UTMB, my head said UTHSC. I made lists and weighed out the pro's and cons of each, and basically it came down to the commute for me (moving isn't an option) and the time in which I'll finish the program (starting summer at UTHSC vs. fall at UTMB). Ultimately I decided on UTHSC and will start this summer, so I'll be giving up my spot at UTMB. Both are great schools! Either way you'll be receiving a wonderful education and be a part of a great network of students and nurses. Good luck on your decision!
  7. Summer. I want to get started and finished ASAP :)
  8. Call the number listed at the bottom of your acceptance email, if you haven't already. She was super helpful when I called the other day.
  9. Same thing happened to me and many others. I contacted the school and was told that some of the summer students were accidentally included on the distribution list for the fall acceptance email as well.
  10. I think they send the acceptances out in waves. For summer, a lot of us were notified on Feb 28th, then some at the end of the first week in March, and more recently I know of one person that was notified on March 20th.
  11. You may be right. In my case, I'm glad they didn't dwell too much on my past academic history. My first two semesters I dropped most of my classes and failed a few. I ended up with an overall GPA of 3.3 for my BBA, but that was after working hard and retaking multiple classes. I'm just glad to have gotten in and that my work post degree (most pre-reqs and all science classes) were taken into account when making a decision.
  12. I understand. I was trying to decide between the two for quite sometime. I did get a very friendly/relaxed vibe from the person who interviewed me at UTMB and truth be told, if it were closer I would have definitely chosen to go there (heart said UTMB, head said UTHSC). However, the only correspondence I've had with UTHSC has been through the admissions/registrar's office and I think it's unfair to judge the professors/entire staff by the emails from a few (probably highly overworked and extremely busy) persons.
  13. I'm not sure why your eval says accelerated, but if you look at UTHealth's SON website the only BSN program available going forward is the Pacesetter which is 15months. As for UTH not caring about their students, what would lead you to make such a bold statement? I have heard nothing but positive reviews of the staff from previous SON students.
  14. From what I understand, and everything I have read on the website, the school looks at your nursing prereq GPA and science GPA. Some people are including their overall GPA in their stats as well. The website specifically states: Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or better in the required 60 hours of nursing prerequisites, and a minimum of 3.0 or better in the required science prerequisites. It makes no reference to overall GPA.
  15. When you said scholarship, did you mean grant? I wasn't aware you could get a scholarship without first being accepted to the school.
  16. So...even though I accepted admission for summer, I just received an email saying I was accepted for Fall as well! Guess I'll be emailing JoAnn to get this figured out. Congrats to everyone that made it in!
  17. I don't think your overall GPA carries much (if any) weight. I know they look at science and pre-req GPA. I made it into the summer program with a 3.3 overall, 3.802 pre-req, and 4.0 science.
  18. Yes, there is a fb page. I'd suggest joining. There's lots of good info, files, and documents passed down from upperclassmen. Name of the group is UTHSC Houston SON Class of August 2015
  19. I received my acceptance as well but will be declining for UTHSC also. Congrats to everyone that made it in!
  20. Hi everyone! The TEAS V is much harder than the HESI, so if you haven't taken it yet, I'd advise buying the guide as well as practice tests and studying hard! I've actually been accepted at UTMB and UTHealth (trying to decide between them now) so I will no longer be applying for SHSU. Good luck to you all!
  21. I'm a list maker too. After sitting down and writing it all out, I know UTHealth is the most logical choice, but something keeps pulling me back to UTMB. Like you said though, the heart can be deceiving. I'm giving it another week before making a final decision. Thanks for your input :)
  22. Ha. I stalk them too, no worries! Yes, I was accepted into summer program at UTHealth. I know it shouldn't be that hard to decide. My head says UTHealth, my heart says UTMB. I commuted over an hour each day for my first degree, but then again it was International Business and I'm sure I didn't have half the amount of studying/work that we'll be doing in nursing school.
  23. FYI the Houston Junior League offers free Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification classes through the American Heart Association. I was able to sign up for the April class, but it looks like it's full now. However, I'm sure they'll be posting classes for May soon so check back frequently and sign up for the class when it's available ASAP, as spots go fast! http://www.juniorleaguehouston.org/?nd=p_event&event_category=CPR

  25. Where would you be commuting to UTMB from? I am still trying to decide between UTMB and UT-Health and commuting from Houston is a big factor in all of this.
