Should I go back to school for MSN?
I think that it would just help me overall to know more about children & body systems, etc. I'm not sure if I would be able to do at school additionally as a NP (prescribe, diagnose, etc.), so it would be additional knowledge and pay increase.

Should I go back to school for MSN?
I'm wondering if anyone has gone in to school nursing with their BSN and an RN license and decided to go back to school while being a school nurse? I'm interested in going back for my master's but I'm not sure where to go or which direction to take as far as my master's goes (nurse educator, nurse practioner, etc.)...Does anyone have any tips or can give me some ideas based on their experiences? Thanks! Kayla

Do you know your patients?
I am a school nurse at a school with over 1000 students to know health concerns/health history for. Each year, I print a report of the students' health concerns and send a list to each teacher which helps me to remember stuff for each kid, though I certainly haven't memorized everyone's health concerns/history...I realize that's likely not possible for you to do on each of your 30 students during your shift but like others have said, knowing your patients comes from repetition of caring for your patients and reading their charts. My advice would be to take some time before each shift to review main diagnoses and why they're there as well as their meds to make sure there aren't any adverse reactions that may occur when on multiple meds. If/when you have down time, you can explore their chart a little to gather a little more history and over time you'll get it :)

Frequent Flier Teachers
I can't do much for a stomach ache though. 9/10 times all these kids need is a bathroom trip and then I check their temp and they go back to class. Or they will get sent down for a minor bump (that would not need an ice pack, just a little time is all). I'm here for things like schooldistrictnurse said, fevers, barfing, bleeding, etc....paperwork is another big thing that I am here for since we have a big special ed population

Frequent Flier Teachers
I have a teacher who sends multiple kids a day, almost every day down to my office for very minor things...for instance, I got 3 kiddos within 5 minutes all with tummy aches. Has this happened to anyone else? How have you dealt with this? I'm not sure how to approach the situation.
