  1. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!!!!!!! Get some sleep & clear your minds! I mention sleep & a clear mind because I lost those two the 1st day of nursing school Lol!! It's about to get REAL REAL, REAL FAST! Like my classmates said, if you all have any ?s shoot me an email! Welcome to the Famu School of Nursing RATTLERRRRSSSSS!!!!! [email protected] To the students who were not accepted, DONT GIVE UP! I personally know some nursing students who got in on their 2nd & 3rd try and excelled! You are not a failure! It is not over! Much love :-*
  2. We were given a choice..they recommended for transfer students to go to the university's orientation. The required nursing orientation is usually a day or two before school starts. I was a transfer & I didn't go to the university's orientation because it wasn't required and at the nursing orientation they gave us a tour of the campus. I will tell you now that they are not going to give you any information/dates about anything nursing related (other than your interview date) until you are accepted. Your acceptance packet/email will have all of that stuff in it. They should notify you of acceptance at least 3 weeks before school starts. Hang in there y'all! I know how it can be lol NERVE WRECKING!! Take it one day at a time. Practice for your interview :-)
  3. From what I remember, they emailed me and let me know they received my packet. I submitted my packet in early October. I want to say that took about 15 days. Then they called me in late November for my interview. I received my YES December 19th & had to be at school with my nursing deposit on January 2nd! As far as living goes, go apartment searching after your interview. Let them know your situation & see if they will make accommodations. Get all the paperwork you will need (lease/guarantor stuff) so that when you get your YES you can actually fax it right in. Also, be sure to handle all of your financial issues NOW. You won't have time later. As far as choosing an apartment..I'm a 2nd degree student so I'm a lot older than most of my classmates. I wanted to live off campus and away from the parties. I chose The Commons off of West Tharpe and I am satisfied. Some of my classmates stay in Seminole Grand, The Heights, Vila Delago, Forest Ridge, & Park at mid town. Nobody really stayed too close because it's a bit "ratchet".
  4. My 1st semester was very challenging! I had several break downs but I made it. It's exhausting. Many days I got to school around 7am and didn't leave the library until 10 at night. Then I would go home and study until 2 am. I will not sugar coat anything. I think that was my downfall..people weren't honest. Be prepared to read, study, and think non-stop. If you're accustomed to 50 min classes like I was, be prepared for 4 hour classes w/ few breaks. I saw a few posts about previous students GPAs. You're GPA is only one of several things that will be considered. Just because you have a 3.5+ GPA doesn't mean you have the upper hand or if you have a 2.7 GPA it doesn't mean you don't have a chance. They do look at everything & they are very fair. I know several great students who were admitted with under a 3.0.
  5. Hello!! My name is Erin S. And I too was your shoes just last year! I'm a 2nd semester nursing student at famu & I used this awesome website to communicate with other applicants.
