I'm NOT saying you guys aren't right but as i've said before i've worked in four different ltc facilitys and i did cna classes in Nebraska then moved to missouri and re did them here and i have never been told to change beds everday we do them on there weekly shower days and then they get santized by housekeeping. now the facility i'm at now they get showers twice a week but there bed only gets stripped once therefor unless its soiled only gets changed once. Is this a state reg?? I do agree it would be nice to change there beds every day but i work in a 120 bed facility and we wouldn't even have enough linens to be able to do that... I think it is easy to get a bad attitude and get burnt out working as a cna/aide although its not right and the res. suffer in the end it does happen. underpaid and overworked alot of the times....Tiffany

Very Well put....... Working as a cna/aide whatever you wish to call it is hard stressful work. As far as dream's previous statement "i have no soiled beds" well consider yourself lucky b/c a soiled bed doesnt mean your NOT doing your job if that was the case i would of been fired a long time ago. But I do change my beds whenever i see that they are soiled and need it. Mirari made an excellent point what are you going to do if you get someone in that requires two ppl instead of one b/c i believe you said i don't help anyone and i don't need any help? I consider myself a good aide most days i do my best I do have days that i'm burnt out and probally could do better and always feel bad when i think about it later. But everyone needs help sometimes and if your not willing to help someone else that may not be as fast or as "average" as you they are going to be less likely to want to help you...Tiffany

reading all of these i can relate to both sides. I am a med tech and i also work as a cna depending on the day. When i'm doing meds and someone needs something simple like lifted up in bed,drink of water,blanket i go ahead and do it but sometimes i am caught up in my own work and am unable to help with the bigger tasks and it always makes me feel SOOO bad when i have to a. tell a resident i'll have to go find someone (although it usually does take two people to perform the task they are asking for)b. telling a aide so and so needs this when i know they are completely overwhelmed with EVERYONE needing something. Not to step on anyones toes this is just my opinion but i think that it would really make a difference if a nurse would work as a cna before being able to go to nursing school in nebraska it is that way. I think it would give them more of an idea what aides go thru and how phisically and mentally draining it can be at times. Granted meds and nursing duties are overwhelming as well. I just think it's important to help WHEN able and not to think like some ppl do "thats the aides that thats why i went to school" The facility i'm currently at the nurse are extremley helpful and i am very thankful for that. just my two cents Tiffany

I am a cmt and from my exp in mo it can be two med tech's, a med tech and a nurse or a nurse and a nurse but you can't just have anyone count narc's we have our uncoming count with the out going person to make sure that everything is correct before taking responsibility for the meds

I'm unclear about something...What do you mean by you license being "on the line" for a med tech mistake. I am a med tech and I have made a med error and I realized my error wrote myself up for my error and all was fine My charge nurse in no way shape or form was even involved. I report my error to her then fill out the med error paper. I am preparing the meds without my charge nurse there i am dispensing (pardon sp) the med without my charge nurse right there they are not responsible for something I do wrong unless perhaps i reported and they failed to do there part by contacting the dr or something like that at least that is how missouri is and nebraska i can't speak for any other state. But as i've said before i would agree that med techs should be eliminated. Tiffany

I have posted on many forums on this topic. I am a cmt in the state of Missouri we are allowed to give all narcs (depending on facility) we are allowed to take bs and give insulin(depending on facility) We are allowed to give neb tx's (depending on facility) and we are allowed to adminster meds thru a tube (depending on facility) LUCKILY i have never had to do that and i wouldn't want to do that. At the job i am currently at i am the med tech relief i work four days a month doing meds and the rest i'm working as a cna. I use to disagree with everyone saying med tech's were not educated enough to be passing meds but now i couldn't agree more. yes there is a nurse close by but you are doing your job and they are doing theres i often go to my cn with questions reguardless of how "stupid" it may sound. I get 50 cents more an hour working as a med tech vs cna and the responsibility load is SO much bigger. I am debating on getting rid of my med tech at first i got it for the exp b/c i would like to become a nurse but finically its not possible right now and i did it for the pay raise but it is REALLY not worth the hassle. I have worked in four different facilitys in missouri and i have yet to meet a nurse that has a problem with med techs i think they look at it as a relief b/c they don't have to pass the meds anymore. But i think if more nurses that do work with med techs would stand up and say hey this isn't safe MAYBE like some others have said something would be done to get these med techs an education to be able to do there job safely.....

Although i'm in a different situation not a nurse I reallly would like to comment on this. Last year i worked a full time job plus overtime as a cna/cmt @ 8.50 an hour so I decided to get a second job and worked a part time job most of last year. I made 20000 dollars and paid 3090.00 in taxes and i went to \do my taxes the other day and when it came to the page that tells you how much you get back he said "you owe 200 some odd dollars to federal" then the state page came up and i owed money on that as well. I just think it is pitiful that someone that trys to get ahead by working overtime and another job and makes less then 20k has to pay in but yet i know of so many ppl that have kids that are getting 4-6 thousand back and havent worked as many hours or payed as many taxes through out the year as i have. I just don't think its right just b/c you have children you get money back and this post is not at all to insult parents b/c i hope to be one soon but it shouldnt mean that i get a break just b/c i have a kid.....Oh, and the reason my tax person said that i had to pay is b/c my part time jobs didn't take out enough taxes and he said i need to have an extra amount taking out of each check just seems kind of crazy to me....thank you for letting me vent God bless Tiffany

I work in ltc but were having the opposite problem we (cna's) are being sent home d/t are census being low. yet they are still hiring new staff makes no since but i must say i applaud you for what you've done i have worked in many different homes short staffed and although we try to get to everyone res are NOT getting the care they need and deserve when we are short staffed. Which is pitiful considering the amount of money they pay to be there ever month. Isn't there a certain ratio they have to maintain per state. Certainely 1:50 is UNACCEPTABLE. I wish they would be more attention to things like this makes me learly of ever putting my loved ones in a home afraid of what care the staff are unable to provide d/t staffing God bless and know that you did the right thing if nothing else i would call state and make them aware but if it's anything like where i've been state comes and all of a sudden you have help go figure god bless tiffany

I am a smoker and can understand how non smokers do not wish to smell my habit that is why I wash my hands afterwards and do everything i can possibly do to minimize the smell. But for the people that say you shouldn't be able to smoke at home what you do at home IS your buisness. If you go that far that you shouldnt be able to drink either, over eat, get a speeding ticket you HAVE to be perfect.

applause.....very well put!!! i have not been in the nurse position but when i work on the floor as a aide i try to do my best but nothing makes me more upset then when a nurse is sitting on there buns doing nothing then tells you so and so has there light on when your rushing to answer the other five lights that are on. a friend of mine just got out of nrsg school and she said there instructor told all of them (lpns) you are a aide as well as a nurse your there for the residents to meet there needs. i understand that ultimetly pardon sp. it is the aides jobs sometimes the aides are so overwhelmed and as you said praise is so important we get told all the time the neg and what we need to do differently but how about telling us what were doing right. god bless tiffany

That is what I was trying to say i KNOW that i would NOT be good in that type of nursing so i wouldn't apply for a job like that But i don't think that means that i should not be a nurse.

yes i understand this but what i was trying to say is I would NOT be able to apply for a job that i knew would be sex offenders i would be caring for in the er i'm sure they do come in however there not going to tell you hey im a sex offender. As i said in my post i'm not trying to pass judgement i was asking how you could do it and for the ppl that said that if you are abused (in whatever way) as a child that you are more likely to do the same I don't believe that at all b/c i myself was abused as a child and i would NEVER think of doing something like that i know this post will probally get alot of ppl upset but god gave you a mind of your own to make choices reguardless of your upbringing.
