Thanks for the response. I actually almost ended up getting a job around September, one of the children's hospitals called and wanted me, but literally that week my husband was hit with some crazy medical problems that they are still trying to diagnose (lost vision to one of his eyes, narrowed it down to some type of autoimmune disorder now) but it wasn't the time to move then. Looks like I'll be stuck here in Texas for a while until we can get his health under control. It's way too convienent to have family helping here.

Thanks for the input. I had actually applied to Legacy, Providence, Dorenbecher, and Shriners. I ended up getting video interviews with two of the hospitals, and one hospital flew me out for an in person interview, paid for everything. But, I ended up not getting that job I had three rounds of interviews with both facilities, haven't heard back yet from the second one, not extremely hopeful, but I am going to keep trying. I wish I could afford to move first, but can't justify taking such a huge financial risk when I am making really good money on my current pedi floor.

Hi, My husband and I have been trying to move from Texas to Portland for a few months now. I need to have a full time job before I move. I graduated with my RN, BSN in December 2012. I worked as a med-surg nurse on a post-op trauma floor at a level two trauma center for 1 year and 7 months. Then I transferred to Pediatrics in the same hospital, and have been there for the past 11 months, it will be 1 year in August. I really don't want to leave the field, and since May, I have put my application out for several pediatric positions without any luck. I had one hospital call me about three weeks ago and say they would email me about setting up a video interview, but haven't heard form them since. Is it just going to be impossible to get a position without living there? My husband would be willing to live in the Salem area as well, but there just isn't much in the way of full time pedi positions that I'm finding. Would travel nursing be a better option?

I just got my PALS certification last week. I was so nervous about it, but in the 2 day class I took they prepared us well. The first day we basically learned everything, and then the 2nd morning we put it all together and tested. Like someone else said, they really want you to pass, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just remember the format the teach you to go through- (your initial CBC, then your 1st assessment of ABCDE, then your SAMPLE) you'll be just fine.

I currently have my RN, BSN and have been working in Texas for almost 2 years. My husband and I plan on moving this summer though, and we will be moving to a non-compact state. I understand that I must apply for a license by endorsement in the state we will be moving too, but my question is, when I apply for my license by endorsement, and after it is approved, will my Texas license be null and void essentially? Will I still be able to continue working in Texas until we move? I know it's sort of a long process, so I want to apply early, and a few hospitals I'm looking at applying to require a current license in that state, so I know I'll need to have it when I start applying so my application doesn't get thrown out. I just want to make sure I can still work up until we move. Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks! I am certainly always checking for pedi positions at my hospital, but they rarely come up because they rarely have enough patients to fill all the rooms. I'm sure something will eventually work out though, and I've got a year before we move most likely. Thanks again for the input!

My husband and I are looking to move from Texas somewhere after he graduates next May. I am currently working nights as an RN on a post-op/trauma/bariatric floor. I started working on this floor in Jan 13'. We will either be moving in the summer of 15' or possibly December 15' or Jan 16', so by the time we move, I will have 2.5-3 years experience. I have my BSN. I have wanted to work in pecs ever since graduation, but we are about 2.5 hours north of the metroplex, no children's hospital near us, and the peds unit where I work is pretty small, when I did clinicals there the nurses all said someone gets AMRd pretty much every night. Anyways, I was wondering what the likelihood of me being able to land a job as an RN at a children's hospital would be. I've heard it's pretty tough to get a job at the Seattle Children's hospital. I'd be willing to work a peds or nicu job at a regular hospital, anywhere in the WA state area. We were really looking at living outside of Seattle, or even in Olympia. Will I be able to get a job in peds with my experience? Or would it be better if I could transfer to the peds floor in my own hospital here? My manager is wanted me to take ACLS and the trauma certification classes in a few months, so I would also have those certifications, but probably not PALS unless I could get my hospital to let me take that. Any help is appreciated, sorry this is so long.

I am currently working in the USA as an RN. I graduated with my BSN last December and started work in January, so in a few months I will have been working for a year. My husband is still in school, but is looking at going to grad school overseas, possibly somewhere in the UK, like St. Andrews in Scotland. He will graduate in May 2015, so if he starts in August 2015, I will have been working as an RN for 2 and a half years. I'm wondering if anyone knows how complicated it would be to get on with a travel nursing company to work over there while my husband attends school. I have looked up some stuff online and have found conflicting ideas. Has anyone done this recently? Any information would be appreciated.
