I did email the BON that way so I can have everything written down and it wouldn't be like he said/she said kinda deal. The BON said that I cannot sit for the CNA exam cause I am NOT currently enrolled in school. She told me that I need to either get back into school or I can go to another place and take the classes again. I just started looking around on their website for places I could go to and start over again

Hey Guys I need some advice to see what other people think I should do. So I was an LPN student. I took a leave due to my grandfathers health (has had cancer for over 15 years and has had his ups and downs and at this time it was a low). During school I always kept my DON and teachers up to date with him cause before I started school I was helping my nana take care of him. Fast forward till about a few weeks ago, I saw my favorite teacher on fb (she no longer works at the school) and I messaged her to see how she was doing. She was telling me a bunch of stuff that's been going on with my school. She was saying my DON got caught with something and she got the boot (which I was kinda glad to hear), the Board of Nursing is taking over cause the pass rates are below 80%. I didn't believe the pass rating part cause I was always told that the pass rate was decent. She then told me that after 12/3 (when the next class graduates) depends on if the program stays around or not. So I looked around online and I found a bunch of schools (in ranking type list) from all over my state (Va). There were 2 locations of my school in my area but they ended up merging...come to find out both locations (both I attended) were below 77%. So here's where I need some advice to see what other people think. I contacted the new DON to see if she can get me a letter for the Board Of Nursing so I can take my CNA so I can atleast have something from this and she was saying "you need to contact them" then I said "I know I need a letter from you saying I completed the CNA portion (like fundimentals and the hands on stuff from skills lab and stuff)" she then came back and was like "that is true but I don't know about the rules cause you didnt complete the whole LPN course". I really need some help. I already planned on calling the Board of Nursing tomorrow but I also want to see what others think. Also should add before I left I was about to enter into my leadership so I was WAY over half way through. Between my grandfather and my physical health (BP was HIGH and was causing headaches and I eventually had chest pains more than one time) and Dr advised me to take a break if not I would end up in the hospital Thanks in advance

Now that I have had time to think about this, I do want to be a nurse. I do have goals in life and finishing school and getting my LPN then eventually my RN is on the list of goals. I just have a lot going on and it's getting to me. I've made it this far and I'm not going to quit

Hi guys I need some advice. Its really bringing me down and have nobody to talk to about this. I am a second generation LPN student. I took a LOA (Leave Of Absence) right before my leadership due to family emergency. Before I started this program, I was helping my nana take care of my grandfather who has cancer and was on chemo. Things got better up till the first of the year and this is up till now. Well anyways at my school we use Kaplan (which I hate). Anyway I got behind on the retakes of the Kaplans I had to do and my DON told me while I was out, I had to re take them before I can come back (which I agreed with her). With my grandfathers health and my car situation and the teacher who is doing the Kaplans schedule, it's hard for me to go to school and retake them. Well I got an email this morning saying that if I can't get the Kaplans done before May 11th (when the next leadership comes next) that i will be in "drop"status at school. I talked to my dad (who is also the LPN) and he gave me nothing but negativity and thinking about quitting. Can somebody please give me some advice on what they would do? Thanks

Hi everybody. I am about to finish my LPN program in less than 8 weeks and I am excited! I want to get a jump on studying for the NCLEX. At school we are we are doing Kaplan which for me personally it doesn't work for me and I'm worried I'll fail the NCLEX. So my question is what would yall recommend for me to start? Thanks

Well I'm glad to say that I'm not the only one that has had to travel that far. I'm going on my 3rd weekend going and honestly it's not that bad of a drive as I thought it was. Only bad thing was that we were out in the middle of no where and it's a small hospital....it has been boring so far so MAJOR disappointment

Yea it's not that bad that it's only for 5 Saturdays. Only bad thing is that I'm not a morning person and with me gotta be up early, it's gonna be a long day

So I got my schedule for my next term with my clinicals. I am in night school which means I have weekend clinicals and I don't mind that at all. So my next term, is my med surge and it's at a hospital setting. The only hospital that would take lpn students is in 1 1/2-2 hrs away AND have to be there at 6:45am-7:15pm every Saturday. Has anybody else had to travel far for a clinical?

I'm in a 14 month program and I start a new class every 5 weeks

I have to agree with the comments above. I go to ECPI and I can tell you now to NOT GO! It is expensive and plus (atleast the 2 locations in Richmond Va) the LPN program is struggling that the BON had to step in. I would really look into other nursing schools around your area cause ECPI is really expensive and not worth it. Its anywhere from a $32-36,000 program (they will add stuff to your tuition without telling you....its happend to a few girls in my class). PLUS you also gotta make some payments while your in school to towards your tuition. Good luck with nursing school where ever you go :)

I'm a student at ECPI. I can tell you now and suggest to NOT go there. It is a good school, but there is too much going on and the nursing program (LPN...not sure bout RN) is going down with it. I like the school, just not what's going on with it

My LPN program costs about $32-34,000 (give or take) with books and uniforms included and they pay like 75% of board fees. But thanks to grants and financial aid I only gotta pay like $14,000. Seems like my school is way over priced

Sorry to hear you didn't pass. That's my biggest fear when I finish school. Just like the person above me said try Kaplan. But I'm also trying this NCLEX app on my phone called NCLEX Mastery that's supposed to really help, and from what I read online it really seems to help. It gives you questions with the rationales after you answer it. The only downfall of the app, is that it costs $30 to unlock the whole app. With that, your gonna have 1,500 questions with all of the subjects for the NCLEX. They will refund your money back if you don't pass. Just a suggestion. Good luck :)

Clinical's are good. Make sure you bring COMFORTABLE shoes. You start early in the morning (if your day students) and we started around 6:45 am and we ended from 2:45 and some days 3:15pm. And if your not there by 6:45 they wont let you in and that counts as an absent and you can only miss 1 clinical day due to you have to have certain clinical hours. BUT they can make en exception like say you gotta go to court or something like that, just show the DON the proof that you have court. I'm lucky I have a good DON. I dont know what I would do without her...Oh AND start getting your physical stuff done early that way so you wont be rushing when you get to NUR 105. Sorry I kinda went off topic abit but that was stuff off the top of my head that had to deal with clinical's and thought I'd give you a heads up :)

Freshman Orientation (which to be honest is common sense), Nursing Foundations 101 (to me was common sense but everybody is different) and Anatomy 1

I actually start clinical rotations this week :). So as of now I can't really answer that. I do know that we will go to a hospital setting ( for my school, we gotta to 2hrs away from school). But since LPNs are mostly in LTCF, we will do mostly assistant living just a guess. I'd find out just to be on the safe side

Just be prepared for the fast pace. I think that's the toughest part of the whole thing

I'm also a student at MCI but I'm at the South Richmond Va campus. I started last year and almost done and can't wait. It's a lot of fun but since I'm as far as I am, it is getting harder. Good luck :)

I just finished pharmacology. In my school, they did it 2 parts. Pharm 1 was med administration and Pharm 2 was all the meds. I don't know how they do it in your school, but if your gonna learn the meds this class, flash cards helped me out a lot. Since you want to know how to prepare yourself, I'd start off with the drug classes (I struggled with drug classes). To be honest, if you know your drug classes your good. It's not that hard like everybody makes it out to do. Good luck :)
