Oregon Health and Science University 2014 cohort
@Thihan --My humble opinion is that you go with Linfield. I understand where you are coming from in terms of having a degree from OHSU, but don't let subjectivity get in your way of objectivity--particularly when it means that you can get to your goals in half the time. What is great about your situation is that Linfield also has a great reputation. I had a hard time deciding between OHSU and Linfield's ABSN-- I just about cried when I declined Linfield, but I knew my goals were more in line with OHSU. With that being said, if I were in your shoes, I would accept Linfield and leave OHSU for my future advanced degree goals :) I am not only speaking as a student but as a career counselor (my present profession)

Thank You! The way you broke it down made me feel like I was living it. It is definitely intense!! But oh, so worth it!! I am not looking forward to waking up in the wee hours of the mornings to catch a bus--when I have NEVER in my life been on public transportation.

Questions!! Yes!! I will be commuting and I would like to know the best situation for parking. Is there a bus/train/donkey--whatever I can take from wilsonville/Tualatin area? What are the school days like, all day? Mid day? Also, what do you think our first week of school will be like in terms of the hours? I am trying to create my exit plan for work, so this would be helpful to know :) Thanks!!

Oh I hope we start the 30th that would work with my timelines even better!! Where did you see the 06/30 start date? I did apply to just the accelBSN program. I am going to be in debt up to my ears, which is why I can't go straight through. In the future, I am definitely aiming to become an FNP :)

Oregon Health and Science University 2014 cohort
Hello, I was accepted into the Summer absn cohort and I am trying to get all my ducks in a row to start. Can you tell me a little bit about the class schedules?? I see that an orientation is scheduled to take place on June 30th, which is odd since classes start June 23rd?? Any info would help. Also, where do you park?? How do people usually get to class? Thanks in advance!

I applied to the ABSN at OHSU and linfield--there are no proctored essays or interviews--just essays, so the wait truly is like 2 months away...I don't know about the other programs.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts-- It can be discouraging to hear from people that you need to have perfect cum gpa's and prereq gpa's and be something close to pretty much a nurse to even be considered. So it's nice to know that although the competition is tight--it's not like you need to be an airspace engineer with a flawless school history. I consider myself to have pretty good "stats" but I can't help but feel supernervous Have I mentioned the wait sux??!!

I was thinking about caregiving or even a call center--anything that is open pretty much 24/7. I do have CNA training, I just never became employed as a CNA, but it would make sense that we could at least work as caregivers. Sounds like you have a pretty good plan :) I wish everyone that has the heart set on becoming a nurse could be! 2 more months---the anxiety is killing me!

It does seem that there are pros and cons at each school...fingers crossed and I find myself in the predicament of having to choose! One can only hope. It seems like a lot of people have favored linfield, and well it doesn't hurt that they finish 3 months earlier. It's going to be nice that you will be able to keep your job, I doubt I will be able to do the same. I'm a supervisor at a worksource Oregon center and we operate M-F 8-5

Hellonewyear- hopefully you won't have to reapply next year and you get accepted by WWU. I was looking at the BSN for OHSU, that's weird it takes 3 years...a whole year longer than the other 2 year BSN programs, so I totally get where you are coming from. Linfield has a Spring cohort you can apply to in August, just in case you see yourself in the need :) but fingers crossed--you don't. Shawba08- We'll have to keep connected through this forum so we share what will hopefully be success stories! I'd rather be accepted at OHSU ABSN because of the cost, but I would be extremely happy going to Linfield too :) We shall see

Don't feel discouraged! A 4.0 in prereqs and 52 points is NOT bad. If you don't get accepted this year, for whatever reason it may be, try again! Perfectly great candidates may be turned away because of the sheer capacity of the programs. Focus on gaining that CNA or volunteer in a healthcare setting. You may find this link helpful, to learn about the capacity of programs and applicant data from 2008/2009 and 2010-2011 application cycles: http://www.oregoncenterfornursing.org/documents/Who_Gets_In_NSAD_Report.pdf

Portland Area nursing....where did you apply?
Hello, This discussion is to bring 2014 Portland area school applicants together and hopefully meet our soon to be classmates. Please share where you have applied this year and a little bit about yourself. I applied to OHSU's ABSN and Linfield's ABSN. I have a previous social service degree, worked in healthcare for three years and now work as a career counselor. I decided to follow my own advice about following my dreams and here I am anxiously waiting to hear back for a decision that will come in what seems like an eternity from now. Nice to meet you!
