Please don't do this to co-workers
Hi, I can understand where you are coming from because I sometimes work with individuals that speak a different native lanuage. What is good about these individuals were that they really only spoke their language when they received a telephone call. I guess thedy were being conscious of the others around them. It really doesn't bother me though. It's goood you left that enviroment so that you can feel comfortable about your surroundings. I'm fairly new myself and I know that could be very intimidating.

Todd you said everything that I said in a nutshell and maybe I said it in a harsher and different way. I don mind "butt wiping", I really don't like to do it but I will because my pts. need it and the CNA's or techs need the help. I love my job. This is something I have been involved with since I was a small child. Maybe I did become a bit angered when I wrote my post because I picked up a certain amount of weakness in some ant all individuals. But, a few people saw it as there time to act, all I could do was the same. But, we all know we don't and can't do this job for free (most of us anyway) because we need to make a living to survive but also for me I love interacting with my pts. the staff is what I don't like working with because as we can see people can take what you say and place a different meaning on it because they don't understand what you are saying. then we get what we have here. People telling me to wipe my butt with my RN license because they didn't like what I ssid. Tell me this Todd, don't we have to wipe feces off of an individual if they are incapable or unable to do it for themselves? If we didn't do that simple task for our pt. wouldn't we have a problem on our hands? Why are so manyt people here afraid to admit that is one of the biggest parts of our job esp. if you wotk in CCU, ICU, or you do Total Pt. Care. I worked two nights ago on a M/S floor and 60% of the time that is what I was doing becauase we didn't have any aides. Just me rambling. But, I like what you said and the wasy you said it.

Eat crap!!!! You people are so funny. You all want to be more than what you are that is why your opinions about me don't amount to a hill of beans. For your personal info. my moms a nurse, uncle is MD, cousin is dentist, sister is a chemical engineer, brother owns his own small construction company. Besides the list goes on. I have my share of family members that do regular 9-5 jobs that make more money than YOU and they don't have college degrees. They have only their HS diploma. They know that they are professionals. You people are afraid to hear the truth, stop trying to analyze me because you sound like fools. Like I said before the only reason you all are not seen as professionals is because you feel as though you are not a professional. I asked my uncle about this and he said I don't know why they are like that because me personally as a Dr. I could care less how much education they have as long as they "FOLLOW MY ORDERS CORRECTLY", so you see it is you people who feel inferior you displace this feeling for yourself onto others. YOU HAVE LOW SELF ESTEEM IF YOU FEEL YOUR NOT A PROFESSIONAL. I know Customer Service Reps. who know that they are professionals and they only rec'd on the job training, so stop crying, you people sound like Alice the goon to me (wah wah wah wah wah!). While in nsg. school I was told this was going to happen. Only thing they could really tell us was that is was other nurses who felt this way. Please tell me who actually is bold enough to come up to you at work, home, or play and state that you are not a professional. That is person you should have the problem with. Stand up for yourselves and act like adults who are responsible for yourselves. Maybe I am missing something here and I shouldn't be speaking as I am. Please someone, anyone tell me who tells you that you are not a professional. Also, are the colleged degreed the only professionals in this world? I think not. You can be a professional at ANYTHING that you do. Do not let others put you down like that, and furthermore you don't have to listen to what others say to you. Just because someone speaks it doesn't mean that it is the truth. Grow up. This is an open forum and I can say anything that I like to say. For all the ones who have had a negative response to what I have written I can only say in my first post I didn't go after any one individual because various posts had been placed. I was writing how I felt about what I had read. But, you people took it personally, that is your own fault and not mines, I don't and wont apologize for how I feel.

I am at home and an act anyway that I see fit. YOu people don't even realize what you say and what I said. I BASICALLY SAID , WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER AND NOT SAY THAT A PARTICULAR GROUP HAS TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. FURTHERMORE, THAT YOU ALL SOUND AS IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER (BSN,MSN NURSES) THAN OTHER NURSES. NOT THAT YOU ARE AND NOT THAT ALL OF THESE PARTICULAR NURSES FEEL THIS WAY. GOOD GRIEF

That was me who stated that and I stand behind it because that is a daily task for any nurse who cares about her pts. As for your remark take your license and wipe you "butt" with it then lick it with your fat a** tongue stank ho*. And you wonder why we are not considered as professionals right.- BSN minimum requirement

Hello, we all have the same experience at some point in time and don't you let anyone tell you anything different. Everyone makes mistakes. Just be more careful and take your time. Don't forget to double check everything before you give it. You have gone through school and made it this far because you are capable. Hold your head up, poke your chest out and know that you are capable. If you don't you will only hender yourself. I thought I had made a med. error in nursing school and I cried my tears out.I was lucky I had a preceptor that was great and she sat me down and talked to me about it and told me we are human, we need to be extra careful because we are dealing with lives but don't forget you are a human being and we are not perfect. Good luck.- WORRIED NEW GRAD

Thankyou, no one could say it better than what you have said. I graduated 8/99 from a HOSPITAL, YES A HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING. I always have to tell a BSN nurse what she has to do or help her to understand what is going on. I can't believe that you people have the nerve to sit and say that you are better than someone else because you have a BSN, MSN, PHD, or degree in IDIOT HEAD. This is why everyone wonders why nursing is in the up heavel it is in now. Because we as nurses want to be more than what we are. Glorified butt wipers. Yesss. That is all you are. Do you think that because you have more education in THIS particular field you are better than someone else. You are soo wrong. You need to be happy that the Heavenly Father blessed you enough to allow you to make it that far and even farther if HE chooses to allow you to. Just remember this, it's not where you started at but where you end up. Obviously, you all forgot where you came from.. Besides most of you wont step foot into a nursing home because this is beneath you also, so tell me, who is going to take care of them. Get over it. All you are doing is making a living. If you all want to see improvement in the profession that we are in than first you need to look at your self and know that you can't control nothing but you mouth and your actions. All of the different types of nursing are here to stay. At least for as long as you or I live, believe that. Also, no matter what you or anyone else says, I am a PROFESSIONAL. So quit, I can't believe that you a person who had to go on to get your BSN would say something like that. What you should be saying is "I wish I would have went straight for MY BSN instead of getting my ADN/Diploma", whatever it was that you got first. I can't beleive that we are in the same profession of caring for others because obviously you all are thinking of apperances only and what comes behind your name. Remember you never know everything that's why you had to go back to school. If I offended anyone, SO WHAT!!!!!!!! Because this is only for those who feel as though ADN, Diploma, and LPN's are beneath them. The Heavenly Father only knows what you think of CNA's. And for your information. I am currently obtaining my BSN just because I want to not to attempt at putting others down. Bye for now. [This message has been edited by sheripa (edited March 05, 2001).]- BSN minimum requirement

Thanx for both of the responses that I received. I guess I didn't think of the population that I am working with and the demographics. Also, what further led me to believe this was that while we were discussing this at work a coworker stated that this had happened to her and that her Dr. stated "your HIV test was negative", and she stated that she hadn't consented to it, but, she was pregnant at the time. Oh well, I guess these Drs. who can't Dx Chronic Fatigue Syndrome knows what they are doing when it comes to HIV. [This message has been edited by sheripa (edited March 05, 2001).]- HIV TESTING

First, let me say that this is just for my own information and I have nothing against anyone who is infected with the HIV virus. I recently relocated to Atlanta,Ga from Ohio and I see a lot more cases of HIV Dx here than I saw in Ohio. I have gotten into some heated arguments about testing. I was told by someone a while back before I became a nurse that when you were admitted into the hospital that all blood was tested for the virus. At first I didn't believe this but now I'm beliving this. This person said that if your test came back postive then the DR. would ask you if you have tested + before and if you say "no", then he would suggest that you have the test, the Dr. wouldn't tell you that you tested + because he didn't receive consent. Then when you are tested you find out that you are +. Now, in Atlanta I see a lot more of the Drs. asking pts. to have the test based on their symptoms, but all of these people present with different symptoms. One nurse said the Dr.s are 99% accurate. I just can't believe that these Dr.s are able to Dx these pts. with HIV because they have a hunch. Is there any truth to what this person said about all blood being tested.- HIV TESTING

I'll try to help as much as I can. This may not be what you want to hear. Almost all of the nursing programs I know of will not allow you to reenter if you fail two times. What most people did in that case in my area was try another school. A nursing education is a nursing education if you ask me. If that is not possible in your area then maybe if you include all documentation of wat you have accomplished since that time and also some letters of recommendation from coworkers in the hospital it would help. Sorry I don't have any great or new ideas. Also, don't give up. Where one door closes another one opens.- On-Call and other related concerns
I would like to commend you for working in that area first and foremost, so I would hate for a nurse to leave that avenue due to the fact that the pay isn't that great and many are out for the money. I'm still pretty new at this. But, I would like to say that when I took my second job as a Unit Manager in a nursing home and it required on-call days , who ever had the beeper was paid for the entire time they had it. We would get $50.00/day. Normally the only time you got it was on weekends. Maybe they need to do a roatinal thing with your beeper. Maybe you should look into asking one of your part-time RN's that has been there a while if she/he would like to share the responsibility of the pager and being on-call. But, just be prepared to pay that particular person for there time. I hope this helps some. I know that it is hard on the RN in those types of agencies because they don't staff as hospital's and nursing homes do so it makes your job that much more difficult, especially when you receive every call about every problem. - BSN minimum requirement
