Gulf Coast State College Spring 2014 Class
I had a 95 on my HESI and had all coreqs complete except AP II, Micro and Pharm (was taking Pharm during the application process, done now). Gulf Coast places *great* emphasis on HESI scores relative to other programs (this is not "official" info, but do some digging around and you'll hear it again and again). Admission varies with each applicant pool but you seem to be in great shape. As far as retaking the HESI is concerned, if your scores in all 4 sections are relatively close, I wouldn't do in unless you don't get in this time. If you have 3 great scores and one lagging, it might make sense to retake the one deficient section. This was my experience; I had near 100 in three sections and mid 80s in one. I was going to retake the one section, but my schedule at the time wouldn't allow it, and luckily it wasn't necessary. I don't know if it varies from year to year, but we got our acceptance letters very quickly, just under three weeks after the deadline, I believe. I realize this info is coming a bit late! I hope your application went well and wish you the best of luck!

Lol, I got a Taber's at goodwill too. Whether I need it or not, it was well worth the three dollars invested. My course textbooks may not show up in time, which could create an interesting situation, but I'll cross that bridge if/when I come to it. I had a recent, very unexpected death in the family and the past few weeks have been accordingly off-kilter. I haven't had the time I would have liked to devote to preparing for class (just getting through my finals was an ordeal in itself). Things are starting to get back to normal now, so I hope I can start the term off properly. Also, I managed to lose the list of orientation courses, along with most of the acceptance packet while running around preparing for a last minute flight. Would anyone be so kind as to post the course numbers that we need to register for? I would really appreciate it! Hope everyone's holidays were better than mine. :)

Not yet, same here as I thought it may have been here by now. Its NBD because we can basically do everything but register for classes or use financial aid to buy books, but having the "official official" acceptance is still nice. Speaking of preparing, the scrub shop on 15th and Jenks has a 20% discount on all products for GC students! I bought a BP cuff but held off on the scrubs for a few weeks.

Not sure about slipon... I am going with some plain white Rees but my selection is a bit more limited than yours.

Marriage and Nursing School
How "on board" is your wife with your pursuit of a nursing career? Has she had a realistic sense of what it would entail from day 1, and if so has she been supportive? If she is truly aware of the pressure you are under, it is unrealistic to expect you to do what you are not capable of. If, for whatever reason, she doesn't know or understand then TELL HER. Communicate to her that you love her and your daughter more than life itself, and remind her that you are (I am assuming) doing this in part to create a future for all of you, not just yourself. Let her know that you are sorry for causing her hardship but you are doing the best that you possibly can in a VERY difficult situation. Finally look critically at yourself and ask if you •really• are doing the best you possibly can. I know from personal experience that even when I think I am operating at 100% in my life I still have plenty of room for improvement. Talk to your wife and see if there are specific things she thinks or wishes you could be doing differently. If what she says is reasonable, then think about it, and if not explain to her why. Miscommunication/radically different expectations can be a death sentence for any marriage even under favorable circumstances. After all of that, if the issue isn't resolved, you may have some difficult choices to make. Some/all of that may not apply to you, this is all from my personal experience of one disastrous marriage and another that has had its ups and downs but is still going strong after seven years together.

Spring class schedules are up on Lighthouse! Looks like our schedule will be Monday/Wednesday 8-3 with an hour break, Tuesday 8-12 for the first half, and the same for Monday during the second half, with Tuesday/Wednesday being clinical days and Thursday being 8-2 with the hour break. Having an extra off day for the first two months should help a lot.

I am taking it now, but what I can say is that is there are only 2 proctored exams, midterm and final. All other assignments and quizzes can be done anywhere. My wife and I like to travel as well; we took a short trip for our birthdayversary this term and no issues. If you are taking it alone especially it shouldn't be a hindrance.

I am going to get mine next month, my last day at work is 11/25 and there's no sense in burning leave hours before then. Apparently the cert. I have is kinda bottom of the barrel as far as pros go (thanks state of FL!) but it's all good as far as I'm concerned, having to get another one is really no big deal. I met a couple of people when I got fingerprinted but because I was in a hurry to get to work once I finished and the woman processing us was very efficient, I didn't have much opportunity to get to know anyone. I did see one other guy though, so were looking at AT LEAST 4% male representation!

My Cardiology II came in the mail today, it's in great shape considering it's around 15-20 years old. I wonder what that is in "stethoscope years"? I was expecting to have to replace some of the rubber parts but everything seems good, and it works great.

How many men in your cohort?
I don't officially start until January. I saw one guy when I went for my background check, so I'm looking at at least ≥2/50!

I thought about the potential of this happening to me as well. The only advantage I can think of here is for those of us who still have coreqs to complete (A&P II and MB for me) so we don't have to take them with our core classes. Any particular skills/concepts to devote extra attention to over the summer?
