  1. I'm encouraged by the number of potential male nurses! We need to all make it through this thing so that we can change the face of male nursing. It's not just a woman thing to care and work in this capacity and that's being shown. I'm really excited to see what the future has to hold. Keep up the great work everyone, you've made it this far for a reason, you can do it!
  2. You look like a guy I was supposed to go to school with but he changed his major. I wish you all the best in your endeavors and hopefully we can keep up with each other on here!
  3. I appreciate all of your input greatly! However, I do not and won't consider divorce as even being an option because I was a child of divorce and it still haunts me to this day and if for no other reason, I want to be around for my daughter. I think that I could do better as a parent and husband so I think for the most part I need to reevaluate myself first because I'm sure it has much to do with me because I give all of myself elsewhere and leave nothing for my family when I'm actually home. I just need better time management skills.
  4. I work part time as a CNA, have a family and of course go to nursing school. I have found that it's not nearly as hard as I made it out to be in my own mind. I'm sure that it will get much much harder as time goes by but just try staying focused. Do not slip on reading your chapters, power points, etc., and if nothing else, set a goal that you will read/study for at least 1 hour a night. You can do it. You were accepted for a reason so just remember that and carry on. Don't let them get to you in the beginning. Most teachers for the first semester will try to break you by hitting you with a syllabus (hopefully not literally) and giving you a peak into all that you will do over the next 4 months but remember, you've got this. Remain humble and confident.
  5. I'm just about finished with my first semester of nursing school and possibly my marriage. I love my wife so much and our daughter and I'm trying, I really am, but I just suck at juggling it all. I'm sure there is more that I can do but I don't know what. I'm tired all the time and that causes fights too. For instance, I told my wife she could go to bed and I would keep our daughter up for an extra hour and then put her to bed. Well, I end up falling asleep and the couch and my life has been hell since that happened. It was terribly irresponsible of me, but I didn't do it on purpose. I just don't know what I can do anymore. It discourages me so much that I really never even want to study for this stuff because I'm so overwhelmed. I don't know what my writing this will do, but I guess it helps just to vent. Thanks for your time.
  6. Well right now I'm just really apprehensive about getting at work in the lab and clinical. However, I'm not sure about the whole thing. I love working with kids and it would really disappoint me to be shut out of that.
  7. Sounds good. I'm so apprehensive right now!! I just want to start with the heavy lab and clinical stuff (words I'm sure ill be eating before long) but I just really want to do some more things.
  8. In my RN class there are 5 (including myself) out 36. I'm the youngest at 22.
  9. OK. Thank you. That does help out and I love hearing from someone who is thorough like you've been with me. We have a sim-man in our lab and I fully intend on working on my family and friends. Also, that's kind of surprising about you being afforded more opportunities than your female counterparts. I thought this would be a field-wide issue. I hope that I can get the same opportunity to learn as everyone else.
  10. By the way, the topic was meant to say "student" but my iPhone keyboard is too small.
  11. Well, from the more experienced nurses and further along students (I'm only on my 3rd day); how did you all learn to memorize the process in a head to toe assessment? Reading about it, it seems so memory intensive and I'm a little overwhelmed by it all. Also, other male students, did you guys have any issues getting hands on experience in the mother/baby semester?
  12. I just started two days ago and the day before I started I swear I thought I was coming down with the flu!! I ached, lost all appetite and just want hide and never come out. Now, I'm excited to see what the next weeks to come hold for me and my classmates. I just look forward to joining the workforce as a proud nurse!
