  1. speaking as someone whos attended both wallace and jeff state- go with wallace. jeff states expects you to hit the ground running vs. wallace who breaks things down. they even have a student success program geared towards helping students pass from one semester to the next and offer free tutoring. im there now persuing my RN. im in 3rd semester. Im also a LPN.
  2. Speaking personally, I finished the LPN program there last year on sumiton. I loved it. I learned a lot. Fundamentals will definitely be your high fail out rate. And OB is a killer too. We actually people fail it than 105. And we took both together last summer. We had a test almost every Monday and Wednesday. A med surg test Monday. OB CLINICALS Tuesday at UAB WEST. OB test Wednesday. MED SURG CLINICAL Thursday at Walker Baptist. It was brutal! But I made it! It's doable. Just gotta have faith!
  3. lol you better READ! seriously though, just realize at the end of the day your first priority is patient care! if it doesnt have any thing to do with patient care, simply turn the other way. going through a similar situation myself.
  4. I hope so! But I do urge you to take calhoun! Their board rates are higher! That's why I'm thinking Wallace may be where the good Lord is leading me to!
  5. I'm sure your fine ranger *rollseyes* lol. I had a 72.7% on teas and two B's and a C. I'm the one that's scared. I have wallace to fall back in which had a hybrid option. You just have to go to campus for the test (just like snead) and they offer night and weekend Clinicals also. So I have something to fall back with. And their pass rate is higher.
  6. The secretary said letters will be out by the end of this week! I don't think I got in. It's 100 qualified applicants and while my teas score is good my sciences are just B averages at best
  7. I second that. I work at the va now as a lpn on a med surg floor and its so many opportunities to learn. To hone skills. A few seconds ago from me typing this message i just put a iv in one of my patients.
  8. everyone isnt a "a" student or a "b" student for that matter. Often times though they make the best nurses. Number 1) they don't assume they know everything and 2)theyre always open to learning and peer criticizing meant to make them a better nurse. 3) theyre always open to teach others what theyve learned.
  9. Exactly! Like you wernt once that curious student who was just learning everything for the first time!
  10. why are people sometimes such jerks on this site. it was a simple question. the op didnt mean any harm. some people just are mean for no reason. if it annoys you that much.... DON'T RESPOND!
  11. Just a heads up- they meet Tuesday. Got this from the director myself *fingerscrossed*
  12. more than likely @seelek the new class schedule is up, so you can look on there
  13. @jdmelton88 for which school? snead or wallace? i dont know if ive got accepted to snead yet.
  14. Just a update letters are expected to go out sometime next week!
  15. Well as we know pass rates are composed if two things: how well the teachers teach and how well students retain content. If it were me in this case I would go calhoun. It's cheaper. And a RN-BSN program could be a possible out of pocket expense of only 8-10000 which is nothing compared to a 32,000 loan at uah or a expense that a employer might may partially vs. tAkng out a 32,000 and not being able to find a job or one that does NOT offer tuition/loan reimbursement. Especially if that community colleges board rates were higher and more respected I would do the cc. However the BSN will always reign supreme. I think it's gonna come down to how prepared you wannabe and how good each schools reputation is
  16. I will warn you before turning down your seat more than likely the entrance requirements will change for all two year school from the TEAS test to the ACT. Bevill and wallace are piloting that now. This is Wallace's second year implementing the ACT and bevills first. So just keep that in mind.
  17. Kissesnhugs, while I don't regret my choice one bit as far as bridging from lpn to rn because of the vast experience I've gained from being a floor lpn nurse in a teaching hospital, if I had the choice and the funds at that time I definitely would have went where I was accepted first at samford for straight BSN. But life throws us curves and we can either adjust or be thrown off the road. I chose to adjust and I'm glad I did. I feel like briging forward I'll be a more competent nurse. Skill wise and knowledge wise. However, I do urge you to look at board rates before making a selection. While UAHSON is BSN, I do believe Calhoun board rates reign supreme. No use in having a BSN if you can't pass nclex, or not adequately prepared for it. Also it has often been said you come out more clinically competent from adn programs vs. university programs Which is why I feel like its a blessing for me to have been accepted to Wallace's program which board rates are higher than both because they have a high board pass rate. Advice: 1) STUDY! I can't say this enough. My LPN program started with 64 in the first semester dropped by 25 going into second semester, picked up 4 from students dropping from rn to lpn then about 5 more transfers from other schools. Going into the last semester we picked up 10 more students from other programs and students who again dropped from rn to lpn. One girl flunked her last semester measure with a 74.4. She couldn't graduate or get pinned with us. Fundamentals will be your highest fallout course followed by OB. especially taking OB IN THE SUMMER. 2)DONT BECOME A EASY MARK meaning don't be a know it all or a tattletale. Teachers and student alike hate that. People think I'm lying when I tell them this but if a teacher wants you out a program they will get you out. Trust me. I experienced this when I was in the and program at Jeff state. Thankfully I got another chance. Many arnt so lucky. 3) ALWAYS BE ON TIME! My teacher used to actually LOCK The door after class and showing up to a clinical late??!? Your asking to be turned around! One girl that was in my clinicals came 15 minutes late and was turned around after coming from center point to jasper! That's a hour one way! 4) KNOW YOUR ****! Lol sorry to be blunt but you will find most of your nursing instructors and clinical instructors are even more Blunt than this! Before you give a ace inhibitor, you better know to monitor for a dry cough. Before you give a beta blocker like metoprolol you better know that patients heart rate and blood pressure before hand! And please before giving digoxin PLEASE CHECK THE APICAL HEART RATE FOR A FULL 60 seconds! Little things like that is what makes a great nurse. You'll find straight A student who can't even work a floor or have common sense like padding a bed right for someone who is on kexacelate for having a high K+ Things like that is what separates a prudent nurse from a nurse! 4)TAKETIME FOR YOURSELF! It's so easy to have a numerous breakdown in nursing school. Like seriously. Don't study study study. Studies show that taking frequent breaks and setting aside time for oneself actually helps you to retain information better! I used to set aside one day a week to pig out on junk food and catch up on my favorite shows or to get a pedicure. You come first!
  18. Congrats! CyndleT. Speaking as a LPN that just finished bevill so our course work is the same from first to second semester get ready! 1st semester is a whole new way of thinking! A whole new world! And that summer second semester taking PEDS/OB and Medsurg! Omg! If you haven't discovered Jesus yet, your about to become his best friend! But it's all worth it. Especially seeing your name on ALABAMA BOARD OF NURSING and securing a job!
  19. Thank you! Good luck to you as well! I would have definitely accepted the spot at Calhoun if I got in to the online mobility! Unfortunately that drive everyday to Decatur is impossible especially driving a mustang! I can take the wallace drive because ill only be driving for Clinicals and test!
  20. I got into wallace program. It's a hybrid option where class time isn't required you just go for test. Your Clinicals are not as liquid as Calhoun or snead where your able to choose when and where u go to Clinicals. Your still in a traditional clinical group. I'm thinking about just doing wallace even if I get into snead because their board rates are higher. I'm turning down my spot for the traditional day mobility.
  21. @ranger1 finally a reply! I actually called the director today to see about the progress of the letters. She stated to expect something around the 14-16. I don't understand why calculating points should take a full 6 weeks! You are right- Calhoun letters came out yesterday. I got into calhoun a program. But it was the day traditional mobility not the online in which I wanted so I'm declining my spot.
  22. it was 148. my coworker also applied and only had 147 points. she was a point shy. she said she only applied for the online mobility and so im guessing why thats why she got the cutoff information. whats crazy is that thats the only thing i applied for too and they offered me a spot in the traditional day mobility and not her and she had more points than me.
  23. which one will you choose? im excited to know!?!
  24. 130.7 points @at256. im going to call tomorrow and find out what the cutoff points was. if im super close to have making it in the online portion, i will go ahead and accept my spot so if a oline seats comes available, ill be next in line. if not ill decline my spot and let someone who needs the spot take it.
