  1. I have recently applied for a VA position and got a congratulations email. I submitted my NPSB assessment, but they only asked for me to briefly describe my leadership experience, any administrative experience, any research and professional awards or teaching. I wrote as much as I could, but they didn't leave much space, they did not talk about dimensions, but I tried to include the things I've seen here with examples. I'm a BSN of 25 years with ICU/CCU, OR, Corrections, charge, preceptor, multiple projects, awards, some Quality Improvement and Infection control experience... I currently work for another federal agency that is on the GS scale. They maxxed me out for a staff nurse at a GL 10-10, (83,000) but gave me a 10% (92,000) retention bonus to make up for the poor salary. Will the VA use that salary to determine my salary at the VA? or is there a chance they will grade me based on education and experience and put me at a nurse II step 11 or 12 (102,000ish)where I personally think I should be??
  2. Arr-tistRN I just interviewed with the VA and recieved an email saying congratulations, please fill out this for to send to the review board to determine your grade and step. It is not very detailed, it asked years of RN and LPN experience, licenses held in what states, certifications held (which I don't have), brief description of leadership roles, any administrative positions held, and briefly describe professional awards, research, community projects. I'm a BSN of 25 years, charge nurse, preceptor, some awards and multiple committee's and trainings....is it unreasonable to hope for a nurse II step 11 or 12?
  3. They will tell you to accept the position and then negotiate, but that's how they screw you. Don't accept a low offer, they won't negotiate
  4. That's what I'm afraid of. That stinks and is actually a pay cut then. Plus I currently get doubletime for holidays and can work OT doing custody posts if I choose, and I don't know if I can continue to do this with Title 38.
  5. I have the tables, but there are so many grades and steps. I'm guessing I'd be a nurse II but I was wondering if someone could give me some insight as to where a nurse of 25 years would fall
  6. GS pay is much lower typically than VA title 38 pay scale. VA nurses start automatically with 5 weeks vacation, that is not true of GS nurses who start at 2 weeks. GS scale is pretty old and needs phased out, in fact there is talks of that, but I'm sure it will take years because nothing in the government happens very fast.
  7. We are being told the BOP is moving to Hybrid Title 38 pay. I am curious as to what that will mean for our pay. We are told we cannot make less than what we are currently making now, but looking at the pay scales of close localities I am concerned. I was hired as a GS 10-10 RN on the Rest of US LEO pay scale , I have a BSN and 25 years experience. I am currently getting a 10% retention bonus. Anyone have any idea where that would put me on the Title 38 Step and grade? For reference, at GS 10-10 LEO is $83,868 plus 10% = $92,255.
  8. Yes, we have MLPs and they get yearly retention bonuses to increase their pay to more competitive level....but our MLPs only go to GS 11.
  9. If nothing else, we hit our body alarm....brings everyone running, embarasses the *** out of the inmate....won't happen again. Plus, he gets a shot.
  10. We can spray them, there is Zero tolerance for sexual harassment
  11. I just got hired as an RN to BOP in August 2019, they are currently still having Recruitment or Retention incentives, ours was 10% of base pay. I got hired at GS 10 step 10 and annual leave credit of 8hr/pay, so with the bonus the pay was fair...I have been an RN for 20 years though. We are not in a high cost of living area. I am also hearing that if they offer the Retention bonus, you can possibly get it every year....our MLP's do.
  12. There is now legislation that was passed in New York State and I am sure others will follow that is doing away with OJT. Everyone now in NY has to be certified, there is a grandfathering period, but come the end of this year, no OJT's. Smartest thing NY state ever did.
