Salary for RN BSN in Grand Rapids MI
I'm wondering what I should expect salary wise as an RN BSN in the Grand Rapids area with about one yr of Med surg and corrections experience. I also have one yr of experience as an occupational health nurse. I am looking to go back to acute care-either OB or OR but am not sure what to expect for base pay. My first position was at spectrum health and I believe they started off at about $26.60 base pay which does not include any shift differentials. I am wondering what I should expect as fair pay for base pay with the small amount of experience that I have and also what I should expect earn maybe 10 years down the road. I am considering working at Spectrum Health, Mercy Health, or Metro health. I am very fortunate that I have benefits through my husband so I am trying to determine which hospital might be a better fit for my situation. Of course money is not everything but since I do not need health insurance wages will affect my decisions more heavily. I also want to make sure I'm going to a hospital that values their nurses. I know almost all hospitals have issues with understaffing but I do not want to get burned out either. Does anyone have any advice on local hospitals and salary info? I also have a bachelors in business and have worked in business for several years and I'm hoping to move up in management someday and use both my business snd nursing knowledge. Thank you for all of the insight!

OR Nursing at Metro Health, St. Mary's, or Spectrum Health Grand Rapids
Hi all! I am a recent BSN graduate and either very much dislike the particular unit I work on or just realized that I dislike floor nursing in general. I have enjoyed my OR shadows (particularly ortho surgeries) and have decided I would like to go into perioperative nursing. My only questions is, for you Grand Rapids OR nurses (or even nurses in general), which hospital do you work for and what do you like and dislike about where you work? I currently work for Spectrum Health but am considering looking for employment at St. Mary's or Metro if I can get an OR position. I think Spectrum has great benefits and their pay is competitive but the unit I am currently on feels grossly understaffed and is extremely stressful to work on. I am very frustrated because I got a second bachelors degree to pursue nursing because I thought it was my passion but my first RN job has made me question whether going back to school to be a nurse was a mistake. Thank you all for your input!

Perioperative Internships in Michigan or Colorado
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had any insight on which hospitals provide perioperative internships or careers with on-the-job-training for new BSN grads for periperative nursing. I am from Michigan and would prefer to stay in MI (especially the Grand Rapids area), but I am also considering the CO area. The only hospitals I know of in MI that offer perioperative internships are Univ. of Mich hospital and Munson in Traverse City. Does anyone know of any others? I am also interested in ED nursing...please let me know if anyone knows of any hospitals in MI/CO that do internships or on-the-job-training for those positions as well. Thank you so much for your insight!

Has anyone figured out what their university of Michigan id is for those of you who weren't uofm students or grads prior to being accepted or put on the wait list? I created my friend account but can't log in to the students and business area to accept or deny my offer. It's not in any of the emails I received.

I talked to the con and they said they are trying to have all decisions out by mid May. Some people they put on the alternate list and others they haven't decided yet on whether they want to admit or wait list, etc. oh well. I would say no news is probably good news.

That strange. It seems like we would have heard a yes no or maybe by now then. How can you put someone on a wait list and still not respond to others.

Thank you! Hope you get in!

I haven't but they sure are taking forever! I am not going to UofM either way (just had to sign my lease for East Lansing), but I am definitely interested to hear whether I got in or not. Don't worry, if I get in I'll decline right away so that someone else on the 'wait list' is granted the opportunity.

Michigan State University Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN
I was a student at msu a few yrs ago so I only had to apply for readmission
-
Michigan State University Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN
I applied for readmission this fall to the college of natural science so I could take phm 350 this Semester and the college admitted me in about 48 hrs. Not sure what your situation is? I didn't know you could be admitted to the college of nursing without being admitted to the university first

I talked to them maybe 3 weeks ago.

They told me they would plan on releasing decisions in early May. I would start msu's program and have to look for housing (which fills fast!) so I decided I can't wait that long. I'm just going to msu. They have a great program anyway!

I'm assuming they didn't get as many good applicants as they hoped. They've extended it in the past before too I've heard.
