  1. It's a school in California - Los Angeles County College of Nursing & Allied Health. What about you? Thanks for all the replies on here! I too have been feeling really nervous and anxious these last two months...every piece of advice helps! :)
  2. @willowita: Thank you kindly for taking the time to write down all of your tips and advice - it's greatly appreciated! Sounds like you'll make an excellent nurse one day. :) Thanks again and best wishes to you on your last semester at County!
  3. I'm feeling very nervous too! I also start on the 13th of January. Thank you for the tips!
  4. @willowita: Thank you so much for chiming in! How wonderful to be ending your 3rd semester and being just "that close" to graduating this coming Spring! :) Any tips for {anxious} first semester students, like me?!?!
  5. Thanks for the info @Studionurse! I can't wait to be in your shoes in 2 years! :) @goldenheart10 & @slicksGIRL: I still haven't heard back on my background check either. Anyway, hope everyone is having a wonderful week. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting a bit nervous as the upcoming semester draws to a near!
  6. @jofapcastillo I really love your positivity. Again, I'm so happy that you got into PCC and that you are starting a program in the Spring - you totally deserve it! Good luck with everything! :)
  7. @slicksGIRL I haven't purchased my books yet, but I have been trying to compare prices at places like Amazon.com. Some books are available and some aren't. I think I'll just get what I can online and get the rest at the bookstore to purchase. If anyone knows of a better place to buy textbooks aside from Amazon.com, please post - it's getting so expensive and definitely putting a dent in my savings! Btw are you at the LAC+USC site or at Olive View? @goldenheart10 I'm just now getting my titers and immunizations updated with my own healthcare provider and he is actually filling out the forms himself as I go. I'm going to get as much done with my doctor and then take the rest to County. But if you've already had your immunization stuff done in the past, then just do what @slicksGIRL did and take your printout summary to county. And no worries about being able to respond right away @shk69816.
  8. @slicksGIRL I have not received any notifications yet re: the live scan did you? I was told last Wednesday afternoon that I would be notified sometime this week. @shk69816 did you get a letter or email instructions? I was still under the impression that we'd get emails instead of letters. @goldenheart10 I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they are sending emails/letters based on clinical sites??? I'm not sure. I'll probably call again if I don't get anything by the end of the day.
  9. Just curious to see if any of you attending County this Spring have received an email yet regarding the instructions for the live scan, etc.?
  10. Well I just got an acceptance letter from LACC...but it is not addressed to me. Apparently, LACC's computer program had a glitch and it turns out that I am alternate instead. I declined my alternate status because I was already accepted to 3 out of the 4 schools that I applied to; but what concerns me most is that some poor girl (or guy) who is waiting for his/her acceptance letter is probably waiting frantically because I have it. Also, I find it quite disconcerting that this supposed "glitch" occurred, because if you think about it - it's kind of a breach in privacy. Having our names and addresses switched, really bothers me a great deal. Anyway, if you didn't receive a letter of acceptance from LACC yet, that might be a good sign because they will be sending out the correct letters soon.
  11. Oh I would be happy to give my spot to you. :) Just an FYI, I almost missed this acceptance email. I have a separate email address that I use just for nursing stuff and I thought I had used it for my PCC app. Instead, I used my original email addy where I get tons of spam! Just a heads up in case you are still waiting for a notification status and you haven't received anything. Check your other email addy's just in case!
  12. Congrats to everyone who got accepted to Pasadena's RN program. I also received an acceptance email, but will be declining my spot so I hope that frees it up for someone who really wants to attend PCC.
  13. I am soooo very happy for you! It's wonderful that you kept your faith up! PCC is also a great school and glad that you will be starting this Spring, regardless to what happens with County! Time for you to celebrate! :) I have not received an email from PCC yet, but that's ok since County was one of my first choices. Congrats again and I am truly very happy for you!
  14. @Theone40 congrats on also being selected! Well if you don't already have your heart set on one particular school, I would choose based on what's most convenient for you. I'm not too familiar with LATTC, so I can't really voice my opinion in that regard. But if LATTC is closer or has a more convenient schedule, then choosing LATTC would be your best bet, especially if you've already invested in their fees. Also, consider how far each school is from your home (and/or work), and how much traffic you will be in each day. Perhaps you should attend County's pre-registration and "feel it out" before you make your final decision. If you can comfortably see yourself being in one particular program over the other, then choose that school (whether it be County or LATTC). Yes, County's NCLEX rate is excellent and their clinicals are phenomenal, but at the end of the day you will be investing 2 years of your "blood, sweat & tears" (ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating a bit with the "blood" part! lol)! So just be sure to choose a program that is most comfortable for you, and not feel you should choose one over the other because one particular program may seem more popular than the other (not saying you are going to ultimately choose based on that). :) I hope this helps a bit. Good luck and congrats on getting accepted to both schools! I'm sure you'll do great in whichever program you choose.
  15. @goldenheart10 sorry to hear about your situation at COC. That was one of the schools that I also thought about applying to...however, I was told that the English Comp course that I took (years ago) was not equivalent because I took it at a UC when I was an undergrad, and they have quarter units. I was one unit off (in COC's semester units), and I was not willing to retake it (trying to save as much $$ and time here)! Anyway, I'm happy about being accepted into County - and I hope to meet you at pre-registration as well.
  16. @supakimchee thank you for all the insightful info! I am just so humbled to even be accepted into this program! I attended a UC as an undergrad and I can tell you right now that I will just be grateful to keep my head above water and pass from one semester to the next! From what I've read from previous threads, I know just how challenging this program can be - so I'm a little nervous to say the least! My good friend is in her 2nd semester at County and she is so stressed out that it's making me stressed just thinking about it! lol So please do continue to share whatever you can! @goldenheart10 did you decide on County as your first choice after all? I know that you got accepted to many of the schools that you applied to! If so, I look forward to meeting you and everyone else that also got accepted!
  17. @jofapcastillo just hang in there! Did you hear back from LACC? I'm rooting for you! Also, PCC is sending out emails between now and the next two weeks, so hopefully you will hear something from them soon.
  18. @jofapcastillo glad to be of help! Do keep us posted, and just hang in there!
  19. @jofapcastillo please don't be sad! I honestly think they send out letters in batches, so even if you don't receive anything next week, please do NOT lose hope! I know it's hard to hang in there while everybody is receiving their letters of acceptance, but when I spoke to someone last week - they said that "everyone would know" by end of November / beginning of December! I will be crossing my fingers for you, as I'd love to have you as a classmate this spring! So don't lose hope - sending positive vibes your way!
  20. Hi everyone! I also got my acceptance today as well! Congrats to everyone and look forward to meeting you all! Woohoo!!!!
  21. After going through other threads re: County, I was a bit concerned after reading that letters are supposed to go out at the end of November / early December. I don't know about you, but this hardly gives many of us any wiggle room in terms of getting things in order by the first day of class on January 13th, should we get accepted into the program (especially since the holidays are coming up). This is also problematic for those who have already gotten accepted to other nursing schools and have County as their first choice, since many of the deadlines for paperwork are fast approaching (or worst yet, have already passed). I was very hopeful that we would be notified by mid-November, only because I was told via (an earlier) email by one particular staff member that notifications would go out by then. Additionally, it was around this same time last year that my friend (who is now in her 2nd semester of nursing at County), received her acceptance letter (for Spring entrance). With that said, I just recently gave a ring to County and expressed my concerns and was told that yes, it is possible (but not set in stone, mind you) to have notifications sent out mid-November, but they only say "end of November / beginning of December," because that is when "everyone" will know for sure. Now I'm not sure what they exactly mean by "everyone," but perhaps they don't send out letters at the same time. But whatever it means, I will cross my fingers that I hear something by the middle of the month rather than at the end of it! I've already gotten accepted into another school, but County is still #1. At least for now. If I hear / receive anything at all, I will be sure to post! And to those that have also applied to County, please kindly do the same! Best of luck to everyone, we are surely in this together! :)
  22. Well, my deadline to turn in all paperwork is December 2nd. And while I have no qualms getting my vaccinations in order, I'm a bit hesitant to get other things completed like the background check, drug screen, CPR card, uniforms, etc. - only because each school has their own requirements and/or may use a different agency / prefer a particular company over another in terms of getting this all done. So I'm still holding out on a number of things. Hopefully we shall hear something before the end of the month, rather than at the end of it! Which schools have you heard back from so far? I only applied to 4 schools, so I've yet to hear back from the other 3. Best of luck to us all!
  23. Goodness, so sorry to hear about your experience. My sister's friend went to VC and transferred to MC Nursing after a year and absolutely loves it! After attending the open house tonight, I feel that MC has an excellent program. However, I am still waiting to hear from one other particular school, therefore haven't made a final decision about attending just yet. Well I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!
  24. Hi @goldenheart10. Well, my decision is still up in the air. However, I will be working on getting my vaccinations up to date, because regardless as to where I go - I know that needs to be done no matter what. There are other things that require $$, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to invest in all that just yet. I will give it a few weeks to see where I'm at. It's all rather stressful because both schools (County & the other school where I was accepted) are at the top of my list to attend. I just don't want to end up scrambling to get my stuff in order at the last minute!
