Hello! I've been a nurse for 5 yrs at the same pediatric hospital (non-trauma), 2.5 yrs floor & 2.5 yrs ED. I'm really considering travel nursing, preferable as a peds ED nurse. I have a few general questions: 1) Correct me if I'm wrong, seems like most travel assignments expect at least 2 yrs of RN experience, PALS, and TNCC, anything else? 2) Are there a lot of peds ED specific travel assignments? I'm from Washington state and want to stay on the west coast, ideally have my first one in WA/OR/CA. 3) How long should I be studying before the taking the TNCC course? 2 weeks? 4 weeks? Hello, I've been on my unit for 2 years now (Pediatric gen med) and now hoping to switch from my unit to the pediatric ER. I was wondering if you have any general advice on what/what not to put on my resume & cover letter as an internal applicant. 1) Should I have an objective? I didn't use one when I applied for my position 2 yrs ago. 2) Should I include my 2 previous CNA jobs (2013-2016) or just my current RN job? 3) For my current job description should I focus on general RN responsbilities (eg. assessed & admited patients) or more focused RN ones (eg. cared for vented patients, newborns to young adults) 4) Should I include achievements+Dean's list from nursing school or only my BSN degree (2014-2016)? 5) Should I include my certifications (PEARS, RN, nursing association membership) even though all nurses on the hospital are expected to have them Thanks, the help would be much appreciated

Hello everyone! I recently finished my BSN program and just finished the Kaplan 4-day NCLEX-RN course last week. I found the course useful, but I still don't feel confident or prepared for the NCLEX at all...Besides the Kaplan resources (Qbank, etc.), I have the "Saunders 6th edition comprehensive review" book (purple), and my program required the "Prioritization, Delegation, Assignment" book (by LaCharity). Even though I'm only a week into my NCLEX studying, I honestly don't feel my Kaplan scores are going to get much better. I feel like i need to review literally everything again and the amount of content is overwhelming. I'm also aware that I have tons of resources, I'm just not very sure what to use. I plan to finish all the Kaplan question trainers and exams, and complete the 1300 Qbank questions. I'm contemplating on using the Kaplan ebook (definitely prefer using a book vs ebook) or the Saunders 6th book; I'm assuming that most people finish their study book(s) before their exams, right? I plan to take my NCLEX on Sept 23ish so that gives me a month left. So far my Kaplan scores are not that hot... Diagnostic: 61% Trainer 1: 55% Trainer 2: 57% Trainer 3: 51 % Phase 2 RN Practice exam: (60 questions): 50% I find it hard to pin point a specific topic/section to study; again, I feel like I need to review EVERYTHING which just seems unrealistic. ANY help, tips, motivation, etc. would be much much appreciated! This exam is causing me so much anxiety Thank you for your help!!

I was just looking through my Program Evaluation Sheet (the page that displays the classes needed) again and had a question about the Module III section. I understand that transfer students need to take Theological Explorations UCOR 2100, Phil of the Human Person UCOR 2500, Health Care EthicsUCOR 2920, and Humanities and Global Challenges UCOR 3400.I will be receiving my Associates in Arts and Sciences - Direct Transfer Agreement (AAS-DTA) at the end of Spring Quarter 2014 after finishing my last two classes, English 201 and Geography 100 (Social Science Course). Under Module III section it tells me to complete... -Religion in a Global Context UCOR 3100 -Humanities and Global Challenges UCOR 3400 -Social Science/Physical-Life Science and Global Challenges (UCOR 3600 OR UCOR 3800) So I know I will be taking UCOR 3400 during the program and Social Science/Physical-Life (UCOR 3600 OR UCOR 3800) should be satisfied by my Geography 100 course, but my question is about the UCOR 3100, when do I take this? Before I start the program or during the program? Thanks

For all that got accepted, I am currently looking through SU's BSN handbook (2013-2014) and there's a section (page 32) that explains how every student is required to have a Background Check, Health Assessment/Physical Examination, Immunization, etc. I was wondering when do we have to get these things done? I don't see any deadlines, I'm assuming get them done before we start the program? Also under the "Transfer Student Checklist" is tells us to report out immunization records and that... "Nursing students: you will need to complete the immunization requirements of Seattle University, but also the requirements for the College of Nursing in the BSN Health Packet." Does anyone know where to find the BSN Health Packet? Thanks

Hopefully you don't have to retake Microbiology; I know Seattle University gives you 5 years before your science classes are "expired" and need to be retaken, at least for transfer students. I think so, UW and SPU already send their's out. So nervous blahhhh!

Hmm that's weird, I'll give SPU a call and hopefully they can clarify it for us. Maybe #2 is the default number? hopefuldream, I'm pretty sure whether you get accepted/waitlisted/rejected they will send something. Plus the email said "send out the nursing admission status letters on Friday, March 21st" so you'll probably receive a notice soon :)! I honestly wasn't expecting to get anything before Friday, so hopefully them sending it after Friday is good news for you! Stay positive! You're still waitlisted on SPU and you will only know until UW sends something official.

I'm on the same boat as you mcewen.trio, got waitlisted as number 2. I don't know, in a way I'm slightly surprised because I did really bad during the interview so I believe an acceptance letter would be slim. But still, back into the waiting game :S. I called them and they told me that SPU is using a new software which had a few technical issues, but yeah they sent me the email! Hopefully you get accepted and hang in there :)! I'm still waiting for my status, did that waitlist letter come in a regular sized envelope?

Thanks for pasting the email, ugh that just scares me even more that I did not receive this email :/...I'm trying to be optimistic but I know SPU doesn't accept that many transfer students and me doing not so hot in the interview doesn't help much. But oh well, just want to hear back and trying to keep my head up. Again, good luck to you all, I'm sure you'll will be fine nurses !!!

Maybe! Thanks for the update, I assume they will come late March/early April though. I work with several SU graduated nurses and they've told me its around that time, just before SU's spring quarter.

Hello mcewen.trio, Thanks for the update; I didn't get a email stating this, do you think I should give SPU a call on Monday :S...? There were some technical difficulties for my application though, for an example I never got a email/letter inviting me to the interview, but when I called them about it they said I was considered for the interview. I hope we hear back soon, the wait is killing me as well...! Hang in there everybody!!

Let that dream be false! Be optimistic and TRY to forget about nursing school until you receive that acceptance letter :].

Hey hopefuldream you should try calling the SPU school of health sciences because I just received an invitation to the interview today. There were a few technical difficulties that occurred when the nursing faculty reviewed my application which delayed their response. But yes, the staff and faculty have been extremely kind and helpful, good luck I hope you hear back soon!! mcewen.trio, thank you so much for providing details of the interview and the writing prompt. At least now we know a little more on what to expect for the writing prompt. Do you think it's to measure our English proficiency or to know more about us as an applicant? Again, thank you :)!!

The wait is killing me as well, it's going to be so hard opening that SU letter whether I get accepted or rejected...And yes SU's Math 118 is College Algebra. Thank you so much csweet for giving us hope from your previous post about SU! I'm really hoping to get into SU and only heard amazing things about their nursing program and campus!! I also applied to SPU and I believe they only accepted 5 transfer students, BUT I also heard they changed it up this year and are adding more slots for transfer students, but do not take my work on it, I don't know how true it is. Also anyone else apply to SPU and hear back about the interview on Feb. 22? I haven't received anything about it and starting to doubt my chances at SPU... Good luck to everyone, hang in there!
