  1. The university I am attending just announced a trip next year to Honduras to work in rural underserved areas providing primary care, family practice, and health screenings. Has anybody participated in one of these trips (I don't know the specific organization we would be associated with)? If so, what is your feeling about it? What were the positives/negatives? I think I would really like to do this, but my husband isn't convinced it's safe or a good idea, any information I can get to help convince him would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Each state has it's own mandated reporting requirements. We report elder/child abuse, animal bites, gunshots, injuries from commission of a crime. We do not report on knife/baseball bat, or any other type injury. We also don't report domestic violence or rape, which are tough on most of us!
  3. I have been a night shift nurse for 10 of my 12 years and I love it! I am planning to start in the MSN program next year and have talked to my co-workers about working F-S-S nights every week so that I'll be free for classes and clinicals during the week. It will be 3 years, and if I want/need a weekend off I'll just take vacation. My kids are all grown and out of the house, my husband is a firefighter and works 24 hours every 3rd day, so weekends don't really hold that much importance for me most of the time. Good luck to you, and let us know how this works out for you.
  4. Our facility recently implemented a policy regarding NG tubes and I was wondering if it seems reasonable. We are to irrigate with 30 ml of NS every 4 hours to check for placement of the tube. Is this standard practice? Decisions determine destiny.
