  1. I was let go promptly the first of the year by hospice due to "cuts in medicare". I realize the government no longer saw people who were not 12 hours away from death worthy of hospice care (we had a large number of patients who had been on hospice with long term chronic conditions- never to be reversed, but not imminent) also, there were a lot of patients whose families would put them on hospice for basically custodial care. I can see in some ways why the government feels the way they do, but of course our company blamed medicare cuts and not their own greed and mismanagement. Of course the cuts came from the bottom up- no CEO or friend of a CEO in a cushy office job got cut- just the foot soldiers- the underpaid CNA`s, LPN`s- a few RN, and anyone involved with volunteer services. Hers the interesting thing- they still have plans for the new million dollar facility and office complex adjacent to it.
  2. Thank you all for responding.........I find hospice work very fulfilling and I hope there would be a place for an LPN. My company uses them but thanks to the Medicare cuts last year my company let go over 60 people (CNA, RN, LPN, Social workers, office staff etc)........not as much work in that field. But I like home care so there may be options there too. I just cant imagine doing away with LPN if even for purely financial reasons. At my age I just don't have the years and money for RN......LPN will be a year and all said about 18,000.00 that's about as much as I can do and even that is going to be rough.
  3. Happy Birthday and Congrats! But when I saw " its never too late I thought you were old.....37 aint old! Try being 50! That sadly is too old to start RN.........I am thinking of starting LPN school in a month, so I will be 51 when I get out. I am willing to go for it, but I have heard rumors that LPN may be phased out. Do you know anything about that?
  4. I am a CNA in Delaware. I would like to pursue school in a month for LPN. I have heard all sorts of conflicting information about the position of LPN being phased out. I am 49, I do not have the time or money for RN. I work for hospice, mostly home care and sometimes in facilities. I enjoy what I do and would like to move on to another level. Several LPN schools here have closed, the local hospital no longer employs LPN`s, I cant get a straight answer from anyone. I just cant waste the last of my savings....please help!
