  1. Hey guys I'm still deciding what area of nursing I would like to go into and I thought the best way to help with the decision would be to ask you guys that have worked in the different areas. I was hoping that you guys could tell me about your experience in working in the different units...and which unit you liked best or worst and just tell me about the whole experience. Thanks so much!
  2. Okay I'm attending a Community College right now and originally I was going to transfer over to a 4year University to get my B.S. in Nursing. However due to the expense of money and a boyfriend that has come into my life. I am considering just staying at the Community College and getting my A.S. in Nursing. I just wanted advice on anyone out there if that is a good choice? If there is a difference in the way I'm treated when I get a job or difference in pay? I want to get by B.S. at some point so my new plan is to get my A.S. then go back and get by B.S. later in life. Any advice on whether it's a good idea would be most helpful. Thank you soo much!
  3. I was reading a thread that was posted on this website a couple of months ago that was talking about nurse shortage's. The way I heard it, their seemed to be a shortage of working nurses not a nurse shortage. I read all the time about how hospital admin. are driving the nurses away with poor managment. So my question is....is it all true? B/C i'm going to be a senior this year and my plan was to go to ccccd for 2 yrs. then transfer to TWU to become an L&D nurse or an ER nurse. I'm just wondering if maybe I should think about signing up w/a travel agency and become a traveling nurse. All i know is that you hear all the time on the news about how nurses are in high demand and ppl always tell me that i will always have a job no matter what. So if anyone could give me a insight about that...I would appreciate it! Thanks! CC*
  4. wow all that in one day?! see that is what i think i would love about parkland is that it always keeps you on your toes. i mean right now i'm working up at centennial hospital ( in frisco ) and it just opened up a year ago so the patient ratio is very small. i mean 5 patients in the er is considered very busy. yea i have heard that nursing school is very hard. i actually heard that to get into the program you have to have a 3.8 gpa. right now there is no way that i can get my gpa up that high. of course i heard that there is a way around that, i heard that you can get lvn certified for a year, then enter in the rn program and become a nurse in 2 years. and if that is correct then thats the route i'm going to take. do you think i could get in seeing as i would have more clinical experience than the other students? thats really awesome that your going into peds, i actually thought about that, but its too soon to tell which area i would want to go in for sure. thanks for the reply! by the way which school are you going to? well g2g, i have my history ap exam tom. that i have to study for! cori c.
  5. I'm 16 and am a junior in high school. I recently got my CNA license and have been working in a nursing home for some time now. Let me tell ya being 16 and have to perform perineal care and picking up poo really makes you appreciate life. But yes the duties that you perform are gross but you get used to it and when a patient thanks you for helping them out all worries about the job disappear. It wasn't pretty at the beginning but helping out the patients and getting to know them has been such an amazing experience. Trust me it's not as bad as everyone makes it seem. I wouldn't trade any of my experiences! CC
  6. This message is for anyone who works in the ER at Parkland or the Dallas area. I'm a junior in high school and I was defientely looking into becoming a RN in the ER. I was wondering what it is like? How are the hours? How much do u get paid? Where did u go to school and how long? Just any information about your experiences and how u got there. Anything would be really helpful! Thanks guys! CC

Okay I've got a question for all of you guys that have gone to TWU or are still there. I'm a junior in high school and I was really want to go their.....but my grades aren't excatly the best. So I plan to go to CCCCD first then transfer so I was wondering.....If it was hard getting into the college? What were you SAT and ACT grades ( if its not too personal) ? and just any info...about your application process. That would be so helpful! Thank ya guys! CC
  8. Sorry but I can't answer your question, cause I have one of my own. I was reading your post and noticed that you work for a travel nurse agency. I was thinking about going into that as I want to travel when I get my nurses license. If you could give my any information about that I would be so happy. Like do you enjoy it? How long do you usually stay in one spot? Where have you gone so far? Just any info...would help, cause I'm only a junior in high school and it is just another path I want to look into. Thanks CC
