IV Benadryl
I recently had a 50ish female pt that I had administered IVP benadryl and she became shaky, flushed and light headed. I did not dilute it. I will dilute in the future and push slowly. Glad you posted about this.

I have 60 grand of student loan when I finished BSN
Apply for the HRSA loan repayment through the government. The next application cycle should open in January. I am a finalist this year. One of my co-workers had over $100,000 in BSN student loan debt and received 80% of her loan debt paid for 3 years of employment at our hospital.

I signed my contract August 6th. I stalk the website daily and it still says Accepted Award - Under Final Review. What is the next step and what time frame should I expect? Is the counter signing the next step and does that take weeks?

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2016 Cycle
BSN, RN here. No word. I spoke with a co-worker who received the award 3 years ago. She was notified in July and received her first loan repayment in September. I am feeling less hopeful, now. Darn it!

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2016 Cycle
If you consolidate your loans, would you be eligible for HRSA if you wanted to apply again for next year? I feel for you. My monthly payments are hefty, too. Would love to hear any suggestions. Besides picking up extra shifts, I am not sure what I can do to get relief from the monthly payments.

best hospitals around nashvile/franklin area-relocating
A friend of mine was a new grad and starting pay at Centennial was $22.50/hr and $2.00 weekend shift dif. Not sure what night shift dif was at that time. This was 2 years ago, so I don't know what Tristar pays now.

New grad positions/residency options in Nashville
I believe the Vandy and St. Thomas new grad residency programs only high BSNs. Correct me if I am wrong if some one knows for certain.

Info/Advice Needed Regarding St. Thomas Nurse Residency
St. Thomas now requires its nurse residency participants to sign a contract requiring the new grad to reimburse St. Thomas if you do not complete 2 years of employment (that time frame begins when your initial orientation ends). The repayment amount is $8000 and then is pro-rated based on time "served." If you have a lot of transition in your life, this might not be the program for you. Good luck and welcome to Nashville!

So torn between Nursing and Social Work... advice?
I have my MSW and will finish my BSN in 3 months. I didn't consider nursing as something I could do because I didn't enjoy math and science when I was 18 and choosing my major a gazillion years ago. I always worked as a medical social worker (brain injury treatment program, first steps program and teaching hospital). I enjoyed the work but it was a TON of work for little pay. After being a stay at home mom for several years I decided to go back for my BSN and do what I love. Working with patients in the medical setting and providing support to their family members. I am leaning toward hospice nursing and start my practicum at an inpatient hospice facility in two weeks. There are a lot of transferable skills between the 2 careers. Even more so, if you choose medical social work. There is more opportunity to make more $ as a BSN, without having to get your master's degree. In social work, you will need a MSW to really have any type of career advancement and decent pay. I like that nursing has a lot of critical thinking and "tasks." Social work I rarely felt like I could complete a "task." There was always so much more that needed to be done but limited resources with which to help the patient and family. Good luck to you! Either career choice will be fulfilling!
