  1. Hello I currently work at an upscale LTC facility. I love all of the residents and love the people I work with. In addition, the facility is paying for my RN to BSN, with a 2 year contract after the program finishes. However, there have been a lot of changes recently. They have fired some nurses, cutting hours:(, eliminating double weekend schedule, demoting people, and just doing a lot of shady things I do not agree with. I have been on the waiting list for a day shift every since I started 10 months ago. I work the double weekend shift, which I like, but starting the 19th I have to go back to working 2:30-11pm, which I hate. This is my question, I recently applied for 4 positions at a local hospital that a friend works at. Good benefits and salary. They will eventually have tuition assistance, but does not pay for the whole program. Cheaper medical insurance as well. So WHAT SHOULD I DO? SHOULD I STAY OR GO? THE ONLY BENEFIT OF STAYING IS THE FACILITY PAYS FOR MY SCHOOL. I am already $50K in debt cause I went to a private school for my ADN because the wait list was 3 years for the community college. I am torn and not sure if I should stay or not. I hate the schedule. I need advice. Please help.
  2. Congrats on the job. I also started in LTC. It is hard work, but rewarding. I love all of the residents I work with, but the nurse patient ratios are overwhelming at first, but you get used to it.
  3. Hello I am an RN that works in LTC. I have been a nurse for a year. I have insert foley catheters before and had no issues. One hour before my shift was over I had to replace a catheter on a 80 year old man because of leakage. I removed the old catheter and there was some blood in the tip of the old catheter. I replaced the catheter with another and I did receive urine return. I inflated the balloon and the resident said he could feel the catheter. I deflated and adjusted the catheter, reinflated the balloon, and this time blood came out of the foley. The resident was frustrated with me and did not want me to do anything else with the catheter. There was another nurse present in the room during the insertion also. I passed along all of the information to the NOC shift and upon leaving the resident reported that the catheter was leaking. The resident was sent out to the ED during the NOC shift. What could have happened? I feel awful about it. Will I be in trouble? Did I cause trauma? Just want some advice. I am worried about the resident and my job.
  4. Hello Everyone I am new to this site. But I am currently working in LTC and have 1 year of nursing experience and 8 months working at my current job. I do like my job, but I wanna work 12 hour shifts and not 8 hour shifts. I was working double weekends but my facility has eliminated the double weekend schedule. I want to change to the hospital setting but I am looking for opinions on the best paying hospital to work for in phoenix, so that it is similar to what I make now. Any advice would be helpful.
