Hi! I am a current UNLV nursing student and remember the frustration of not finding information on the program on AllNurses other than information regarding applying, so i'll help you guys out. I am only in my first semester but feel that the 9 weeks has given me a pretty good feel for the program. The average week consists of classes three days a week plus one clinical day. Our schedule now is Mon: 8-1pm with open lab from 2-5pm and an organized study session that the school puts on for us from 3-6pm, Tues: 9-4pm, Wed: 8-1:30pm with most people going to their clinical assignments to pick up their patient information to create their care plan after class (takes anywhere from 3-7 hours to complete), Thurs: clinical from 6:30-12:30pm with open lab from 1-4pm, Fri: open lab 1-4pm but some will have their clinical on this day instead of Thursday. As you can see, the schedule is extremely busy. People are usually up studying until 11pm after class everyday and spend their weekends studying as well just to get C's and B's in the classes. We have anywhere from 1 quiz per week to 2 exams, 1 quiz, and a "competency" where we demonstrate skills (these are strictly pass or fail, and you need to pass them in order to progress in the course). Two people have dropped out of the program so far from my group due to the schedule. Some people are working 40+ hours a week while others do not work at all. The program isn't extremely difficult in my opinion, it just requires a lot of time management. They will have you purchase your uniforms, drug test, background check, and set you up with a couple more things at the orientation. Overall, the program is very well organized and there are a lot of different programs the SON has set up to ensure your success. Remember that the longer you are in the program the more money they make from your tuition, so they try as hard as possible to protect their investment. The classes are fun and the teachers are very helpful. Enjoy, and congratulations on being accepted.
