  1. Hello! I'm a new grad, just passed my boards in February. I'm currently working on a really busy med surg floor, it's great for learning, but I'm not sure if it's something I want to be doing a year from now. My favorite rotation in school was when we went to the OR for half the day. I loved it. I've always been amazed with surgery and often wondered if this is where I should be. Can someone tell me what it's like to be an OR nurse? Thanks in advance!
  2. It sucks, but it's really all about who you know. I'm a new grad, only reason I got my job is bc I work in the hospital and kept in contact with the nursing recruiter. Hopefully things turn around for you!
  3. Well, this sounds like it sucks! But, I'm a new grad with limited options. I passed Nclex, had an interview and got hired all within a week and a half (mainly bc I was already working in the hospital, but on a different floor). So I guess I don't really have any other choice. :***: Thank you all for the feedback!
  4. The nurses used to get overtime once they hit over 40 hours in a week. Now if a nurse picks up another shift, say an 8 hour shift and they already worked their 3 12 hour shifts, Instead of getting overtime for those 4 extra hours, they won't get it unless they have a total of 80 hrs worked for the pay period. You get it?
  5. It's per pay period. It used to be overtime after 40.
  6. I'm in PA. The hospital is going for magnet status, so maybe that's the reason for the change?
  7. Hello all, I'm a new nurse and I start my new job in a couple weeks. The hospital I'm working at just started this new professional model for nurses where they're basically salary paid and can't get overtime (well premium pay) until after 80 hours. Is is this the new trend in nursing? Just curious as to how more experienced nurses like this or if this is even common.
  8. I'll be starting my first nursing job in a couple weeks on a med-surg floor. I had a couple pairs of dansko shoes in nursing school, but they hurt my feet so I switched to sneakers. Any advice on comfy sneakers?
  9. I checked mine about an hour after the test (around 5pm) got the good pop up and my license was posted the next day by 11am
  10. You just need to change the expiration number and it won't charge you because the info is incorrect.
