Thoughts on Microbiology
I am finishing up my 8 week summer session Microbiology class this week. If I could do it again I would take this class in a regular 16 week term. There is a lot of memorization of drug names, viruses, bacteria not to mention all the time spent in the lab running experiments. With that said, though, I am relieved to have it done and over with.

Who else is waiting for Fall 2014 acceptance?
I also thought it was too early to apply but the admissions rep suggested that I apply one year before my desired start date since they have been receiving so many applications. So, while I wait I'll just finish up my pre-reqs.

Who else is waiting for Fall 2014 acceptance?
Ant - I chose Goldfarb mainly due to the proximity to my house, but also because of its recognition as a great program. I live not too far from Central West End. Goldfarb and SLU would be super convenient for me, distance wise. Also, I applied first to Goldfarb because they have rolling admissions so ideally, if I get in, I can start right away next fall... whereas at UMSL (my second pick) or SLU (third) I cannot even apply until next fall for the fall 2015 term. I'm looking at Maryville, too, since their fall 2014 application opens up in a couple of days, but Maryville would be WAY out of the way for me. Considering I will have three kids to shuffle around in the mornings I will pursue the other options before I pursue Maryville.

Who else is waiting for Fall 2014 acceptance?
Nope, Lori, I mean 2014! I have to apply one year out from the desired semester I wish to start.

Who else is waiting for Fall 2014 acceptance?
I applied to Goldfarb in St. Louis, MO about a week ago. Its going to be a long 4-6 weeks until I find out. Luckily, I'm still taking some pre-req's so that will help me pass the time as I wait. Any other fall 2014 hopefuls out there?

Becoming discouraged with science prereqs
I would suggest maybe trying different study strategies to find one that helps you retain information better. For instance, especially when it comes to science, reading the book and taking notes does nothing for me. I draw pictures or watch animated YouTube videos to help me see the concepts in motion. There are some really great YouTube channels out there with videos that relate scientific concepts to everyday life. For both Biology and Microbiology I had a coloring book that I colored and wrote notes in to help me connect the dots and understand the processes. Some people sing songs or write poems, create mnemonic devices to remember certain bits of info, etc. Right now I am taking a summer Chemistry class and on the first day my professor told us we need to study for three hours every single day in order to pass her class. I didn't buy it and only studied for 10 hours for the first test and I got a 70%. I'm taking her study suggestions more seriously now, haha!! You just need to get adventurous and try new ways to study in order to help yourself understand the info.
