Just took NCLEX, millions of select all that apply
It sounds just like how my NCLEX went last Friday morning. I swear I had about 35-40 SATA. And it shut off at 75 questions. It was absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes they were every other mixed with mult choice, but sometimes they just came one after the other. I wanted to cry. I also had tons of questions about in-services. I feel like I know so much about different medical conditions, specific interventions, etc; but wasn't tested on any of it. I had no audio, no dosage, no hot spots... I was too scared to do the PVT but I found out Sunday morning that I passed!!!! Yay!! I guess lots of SATA is a good indication that you are passing, because they are really tough.

Just took NCLEX and feeling terrible about it?!?!
Thanks! The questions themselves were pretty straight forward....I would read the question and be like oh I know this! And then the answers would not include what I did know about the question so that kind of threw me off. I think its important to keep your cool. Think it through. Just ask yourself what makes sense. What stressed me out the most was I would answer a SATA and think to myself thank god thats over...and then I would hit next and it would be another one!! Just expect them..don't start getting worried if you keep seeing them over and over..and over again. GOOD LUCK!!

Just took NCLEX and feeling terrible about it?!?!
So I found out yesterday that I did pass!!!! I never did the PVT because I was scared. haha But I did end up paying the $8 on pearson vue to get my results. So I guess a lot of SATA is really a good sign. Another person I know took the test a week before me and also had a ton of them. She passed as well.

Sorry I don't mean to terrify you. A lot of people say that this is not a test that you walk out of feeling good and I can definitely agree with that. And the more I think about it the worse it is. I wish they would just give me the damn results at the end of the test!!! I swear they want people to freak about it

Just took NCLEX and feeling terrible about it?!?!
I didn't do the Kaplan class but I used the Kaplan strategies book to study and I got 81% on the practice test in the book and 77% on the online practice test. I also used 2 NCLEX review books with just questions. I reviewed any material that was not fresh in my mind, and I must say that I am pretty dismayed with the style of my test. It seemed like there was nothing on things a nurse should definitely know regarding life-threatening complications of illnesses and actual patient care; but just a lot of nonsense about in-services and quality control. I can't believe there were no questions pertaining to shock and PAWP/CVP, nothing about autonomic dysreflexia, thyrotoxicosis, severe side effects of certain meds, nothing on burns, tracheoesoph fistulas, nothing like that. I still haven't checked the PVT and I don't think I will..I feel too scared to do it. But as the day goes on and I realize I won't hear anything all weekend, I feel worse and worse about the outcome. As of right now I feel convinced that I failed. I will definitely come back on once I find out and disclose if my feelings are right.

Thanks for the response. I really hope I did ok. I am still really debating on doing the PVT. I feel like if I do it and it doesn't give me the "good pop-up" I may go check in to the local psych hospital.

Just took NCLEX and feeling terrible about it?!?!
Hi I just got home from taking my NCLEX and it was absolutely terrible. I had at least 30 SATA questions...sometimes they were every other question with multiple choice in between and some were back to back to back. It shut off at 75 questions. I had absolutely no math questions, no hot spot or audio questions, but 3 drag and drop. There was only 1 delegation question. The SATA were absolutely killing me though. A lot of them were very similar to each other as far as the topics. I feel so nervous and not positive about this. I am too scared to do the PVT but I feel like my heart is still pounding out of my chest.

Why are there no nursing jobs available for new grads? What is going on??
That's terrible. Then they wonder why people are so downright depressed in this country. Maybe I could go get a job at McDonalds...oh wait, I only have an ASN so they wouldn't even want me there either. haha

PLEASE I don't even want to think of the fact that in the next couple of months I will be in repayment for all of my student loans. Ha its going to be like getting blood from a stone.

Also I am not saying that every older nurse should be banished but there should be a mix of older and new nurses.

Ok you guys don't have to jump on me. But I know for a fact that a local hospital has nurses that are so old working there that they can barely walk up and down the hallways. What is it going to get to the point that you have a nurse coming into a patients room in a damn wheelchair with a magnifying glass to read the labels on the meds they are about to dispense? It is also terrible to promote nursing as career path that will have a steady need for employees and a promising job outlook. Don't you think it sucks that there are lets say 700 new grads and none of them can get a job anywhere? So what does that mean? That I am going to be stuck living at home with my mom supporting me (my mom who is an older nurse) and so then she won't ever be able to retire because I will be the monkey on her back for the next 5 years while I sit around waiting for a job? It seems like a viscous and kind of downright stupid circle. So basically this generation is screwed because nobody can/will retire. Then everyone wonders why there are so many people on the take. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't have even bothered. The whole scenario seems absolutely asinine.

I don't know...... A local psych hospital got rid of all of their older nurses last year by offering "early retirement packages". The only thing is they never hired any nurses after that..

That is a good point you made about the older RNs who can't retire. But wouldn't it be smarter for the hospitals to lay off or offer early retirement to the older RNs and hire new RNs who I am sure will get paid a lot less than what RNs who have been working for 30+ years make, plus all their sick/vacation time they have accrued? Whoever is running the hospitals doesn't seem to be too intelligent. The hospital my mom used to work at is in shambles and half of the units are closed down. It is such a mess

Why are there no nursing jobs available for new grads? What is going on??
I just graduated from an ASN program in May and I am about to take the NCLEX next week. I do currently have a temporary new grad license... But I just want to know why are there no jobs available? I live in Rhode Island and the employment here is horrible. Almost every single hospital that does have positions available wants at least 1-2 years of med-surg experience. How are we ever supposed to get experience if we can't get a job?? Even the few and far between positions for nurses at clinics and doctor's offices want 3-5 years experience, plus specialty experience. It is downright depressing. One of the reasons I chose the health care field was because "there would always be jobs available." That is such a lie. Whenever I tell people that I just graduated and will be an RN they always say, at least you will never be without a job! That is so false. When I spoke with the nurses at the hospitals where I did my clinical rotations, they said they felt so bad for us and how back in the 80's hospitals were begging them to take positions and even offering sign on bonuses. I just feel like it will be so long before I ever find a job that I won't remember half of the stuff I learned

Interview for position in detox facility..new grad
Thanks for the advice...makes sense. I guess I will just play it by ear and see how the interview goes.

Pregnant new grad with upcoming interview..
Even though I still have to take the NCLEX I do have a temporary license which grants me permission to practice right now if I had a job, as long as I am under the supervision of a RN. Thanks for everyone's comments. I will not disclose it during the initial interview...seems like I would be shooting myself in the foot! But if I did get offered the job than I would have to disclose it then because I am sure they would be pretty displeased with me if I suddenly became 5 &1/2 months pregnant right after I was hired. Sometimes the timing of life just blatantly sucks. Obviously this is not an ideal situation, but it was just the cards I was dealt I suppose

Pregnant new grad with upcoming interview..
Hi everyone, I am a new graduate nurse, about to take the NCLEX in the next 3 weeks and I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. (Please don't scold me about the pregnancy..it was not planned and this is my first baby.) I have been trying to find a job since before I even graduated, and have my first interview tomorrow. The position is at a psychiatric facility specializing in detox. I am a nervous wreck about it because I am not sure if I should or should not disclose the pregnancy. I obviously don't want to be deceiving, but I don't want to throw myself under the bus either. It is a woman who will be interviewing me. I do have a little pregnant pudge, but it really looks like I just have a little abdominal obesity This is for a part-time position with no benefits, so it would not be like I would be screwing them over in that aspect. I currently have health coverage so that would not even be an issue, and I would be willing to work right up until my due date and take an extremely short maternity leave since it is a part-time position...less than the traditional 6-8 weeks would be fine with me.

Interview for position in detox facility..new grad
Hi, I graduated Nursing school in May and have a date scheduled to take the NCLEX in about 3 weeks. I currently have a 90 day temporary license. I have been applying everywhere and finally got my first callback for a position in a detox facility. I was given an interview for tomorrow so I am kind of freaking out! On the phone, the woman asked me if I like Psychiatric nursing and I told her that I do and I prefer it over med-surg..which is true. That's when she asked for the interview. Just a question...I have a (couple) of family members who have had addiction problems and I have really seen firsthand how it affected their lives. Is this good or bad to mention? Any other advice for me from anyone about what/what not to say?
