Rant*I hope I'm never their patient
Today was the last day of the trimester, we finished with the pharmacology final. On Tuesday was our med-surg final. I've heard from several classmates that they just need ____ points to pass. Some are doing the bare minimum and just aiming for that 70 required to pass. A few people even finished the 100 question pharm final in 30 minutes...which is almost impossible because with the amount of SATA questions it seems unlikely that the students were even trying. It makes me wonder about the nurses who have taken care of my family members and whether or not the nurse even knew what she was doing. Or if she just got lucky passing the NCLEX. I work hard for my good grades and it worries/angers me to see people that barely try and still get to continue to the next semester when it's obvious they're not that interested in actually learning anything. With many even using test banks from the textbook Very scary.

What Else Can I Do For A Living?
That's so true! I'm not talking about OP though, I just meant a lot of people on this forum. I guess the happy nurses are too happy to spend their time on this little unhappy corner of the web

Failed nursing. Now what?
Very good, but nothing was related on how to manage anxiety and didn't include any ideas on how to be better prepared should the OP decide to go back to nursing. Again, this is why I said she should gain some CNA experience so that she gradually feels less anxious around patients and will be more ready to take on nursing. Can you not read?

What Else Can I Do For A Living?
Side note to your thread: Why is this kind of attitude so prevalent on this website? It seems a lot of people on here are bitter, sarcastic, condescending know-it-alls. I have 1 year left of school and if this is what awaits, I am not looking forward to it.

Failed nursing. Now what?
Then I'm surprised you aren't more compassionate towards others that struggle with anxiety. Instead of shooting down the OP's entire career aspirations, maybe you can recommend some coping strategies that helped you while in school and at clinical. It's highly likely that she'd be much less anxious after graduation because by that point, one is more experienced and comfortable thanks to their schooling, as well as much more confident in her abilities because of the many hours spent at clinical and internship. And yeah, she still does have to get through school but hands-on learning experiences and figuring out how to succeed in clinical will be the only way through it. Which is why I recommended CNA work in order for her to get more accustomed to patient-care.

I think it would be wise to gain experience as a CNA first to get comfortable around patients and accustomed to doing vitals/BP and just generally being around patients. I had a really scary clinical professor once so I know what you went through :) It's hard for people that don't deal have anxiety to comprehend what it's like, so don't listen to the person above. And the nursing field is so broad that you don't even have to do bedside care in a hospital if you choose not to.

Sorry..but it's true. Welcome to 2017, soon to be 2018. My classes are full of people in their early 20's :)- Unprofessional Students

Thank you for the constructive and kind post! I agree. I have chosen to ignore her. It's sad that there are so many rude people in nursing when it's a profession that involves a great deal of kindness and compassion.- Unprofessional Students
We have assigned seats. I can multi-task And it's hard to pay attention to class when feeling uncomfortable. I try not to use my phone much. Everyone I know occasionally texts during class, not saying it's ok but that's how it is in 2017 I suppose!- Unprofessional Students
Thank you for your useful response! I have chosen not to pay attention to her and pretend like I don't hear anything when she's slamming stuff down. I'm sure she loves it haha!- Unprofessional Students
The instructor of the class is the director of nursing, sorry I failed to mention that in my original post- Unprofessional Students
The girl next to me was texting occasionally too. In fact, everyone texts occasionally during class. Since you are older I'm sure you didn't experience this back then, but that's how it is a lot of the time nowadays. And I have taken classes various places throughout the country and experienced this a lot.- Unprofessional Students
The instructor of the course is the director of the program- Unprofessional Students
I am currently taking pathophysiology and in an associates nursing program, I have a year left. Last week, in class (which is a computer classroom so there's a computer in front of everyone) during lecture, I was scrolling through the powerpoints and looking up things pertaining to lecture. I also sent an email to a professor. While the class took a 5 minute break, a girl that sits a seat away from me (with no one in between us) rudely snapped at me "Can you NOT click and type through the whole class??!" I replied "I didn't know it wasn't allowed." I was taken aback because I thought I was typing quietly and also, I was doing school stuff, not chatting on FB. Anyways...flash forward to this week and I am carefully, quietly scrolling thru the powerpoint/clicking. There is a girl next to the girl that doesn't like the clicking and she is also typing/clicking on stuff. I can tell the annoyed girl is getting really irritated by us because she keeps sighing loudly. She then starts flipping through pages SUPER loudly and then starts slamming her books and notebooks closed and tossing them on her desk loudly. Every time she takes a sip of her energy drink she slams the can down. I texted my friend that sits on the other side of the class if she could hear it and she said she could. The entire situation was so uncomfortable and it's not okay that she does things like this, regardless of if she's annoyed. I really hope she doesn't do this in other classes. I wanted to get opinions on whether or not I should email the director of the nursing program about this?- Montgomery College Spring 2016
Does anyone need an MC uniform?? I have a size Medium pants and about a size 10/medium uniform top...I also have the lab coat. Everything is lightly used...I'm selling it for $50!- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
I'm pretty sure it's good for a year :) I think she said physicals with the urinalysis/cbc should be done annually- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
Where did you get everything done at? I got all my stuff done at the UMD Health Center and I got it back right away. The uniforms are through Fenton Uniform and they will be at registration so you can try everything on/order your uniform at registration. They run about $100 for the tunic top, pants, and lab coat.- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
For Nov. 21st you need confirmation page of both background check and drug screening :)- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
Yeah, they walk around the room with a box full of numbers...and you take one out, and that's the lottery system lol. And I only spent about $300 on all my books...I think the school tries to advertise the bundle.- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
Yup, on the 21st you just need the confirmation of payment printed out for the drug test and background check. Then when you go to register on the 3rd, you will get the Chain of Custody form for the drug test. Then after you get your drug test done, you turn in your copy of the Chain of custody form sometime in the beginning of January...at least that's how it was last fall.- Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015
I think you mean low lottery number? Haha. - Unprofessional Students
