Well, that's a mouth full. I feel your letter was very well stated, but remember the Board of Nursing does not advocate for you, they advocate for the patients. I'm not going to go into it (too much), but I have very close dealings with the Board of Nursing. Not by choice. The Nursing Board comes off very STAUNCH, you will see and feel, like a cold breeze after you get out of the shower, that they will never take your side. So, if you don't expect them too, you won't set yourself up for dissapointment. The Board is very Black and White, but underneath all that cold steel, they do see you as an individual, they just won't show it. NO WARM AND FUZZIES FROM THEM. I feel your letter was put together perfect. All I can say is, and I will, in 2002 I was arrested for buying drugs, (not work related), it took them 16 months to finally vote on a contract for me and impliment it. I felt like I was being charged all over again. So for now, enjoy what you do, for I feel you will be a great RN, Oh by the way I was 38 when I got my RN, and I'm 42 now and had to step down from a Mgmt postion that I loved. I don't have a crystal ball, but if I did, I would see a LLLLLLLLLOng and Bright future in Nursing for you.

Call the State Board of Nursing in your state and get him away from those patients NOW. It's not about you or your family, it's about the patient and their safety. Do it now!

What I hear from the patients is," Are you the doctor?", and even when you correct a person who is alert and oriented times three, they still think you're the doctor. I hear alot, "Oh, you're a male nurse." This demasculates men in nursing. I love my profession, but I think it's gonna take time to change perseptions regarding our gender in nursing. If I could find a scrub store that had DESCENT men's clothes, I would be on cloud nine.

Well, do you want to be a nurse or not. Nothing in the PA program equivilates with NP. In the PA program, usually you can't work full time and go to school full time. Many have tried it and after a couple of weeks realized how insane that attempt is. In some states NP's can work independent of a MD, PA's can not. If I have to do over again. I would want to be a PA. I love the pt's and giving good care, more so I love the medical challanges that spark my critical thinking. None of you core Nursing courses with transfer into the PA program. They look for hands on experience, Nurses aid, er tech, they look for good grades, and the right student doesn't always appear to be the best. NP=masters, and if you have a BS degree already, I know a school here in Ohio that offers a two yr. completion program. Are you thinking about Kings College in NE PA. I use to live in Montrose.

I currently work in a local dayton hopital, I work and play is very seldom. You are right. People say, "we need a life outside of work." Let's see: Mandatory inservices, staff meetings, working when the unit is short, getting called at home about an issue. When, for the Love of God, do we have time for ourselves. :angryfire And I don't even want to know what new grads are makin, I think I would have to be ill. lol. I live in Dayton proper. I know where I work, it doesn't matter what specialty you work, the pay is the same. When going from RN to BSN, the goal, usually is management. There is not much difference in pay, when you get your BSN. You have to consider the time and cost you put in to get that degree. But it definitely opens more doors for management and education position. :) :)
