Thanks so much. I think the hardest part is waiting to see what is wrong with my house, or if I even have a house left. Day 8 so far and now I hear the Alberta Government is taking over the situation. Ugh. Staying with another nurse in Calgary...and the outpouring of support from my nursing and medical co workers is really amazing. Thanks again.

I have lost everything due to the floods, but at least my family and pets are safe. It is so devastating and hard to comprehend. Uncertain what our next step will be....so sad.

I agree, I worked there as well and it was horrible. Horrible morale. Horrible nursing (for the most part) They have a huge problem there in the ER with the staff being bullies and lazy. Although I met a lot of wonderful people but most of them have now left as that was a little over 5 years ago. Just had to add my two cents as I was so miserable there, and believe me I am pretty easy to get along with but had a hard time there. I completed my 13 week assignment but told my travel agency that I would never go back , they said they "hear that all the time". Good luck with your choice.

There is a great course and it is called "Review for Nurse" it is by an RN names Sally L. and she also teaches at a University in California. It is really an amazing course. I took that course and passed with the minimum number of questions. This after failing the NCLEX once before. The first time I wrote the NCLEX I sat for something like 6 hours staring at the computer screen wondering what the heck was I doing there. But the second time I felt more prepared. Some of the questions, I had no idea but worked thru it with the suggestions that Sally had on her course and wa la it worked. Good luck with the test, just remember to take a breath and don't rush into answering the questions.

I too work for AHS and have been here for the past 10 years. Currently there are limited ( very limited) posting for new grads. Keep in mind that there are a few hundred new grads that come out of our programs in Calgary each year who are also looking for "new grad" positions. No new grad make 40 dollars per hour, not unless they are working for a staffing agency and I haven't heard of many of them. I work in a busy department and I have never had an agency nurse work in our department. Calgary is very expensive to live in and if you have to park a vehicle at one of the hospitals the price for parking is outrageous and is going up 100% by next year. These are all things to consider when making your decision to move to Alberta. I hope it all works out for you.

This is my first post and my first day on allnurses. I hope that this is the correct area to post my questions regarding travel nursing to the U.S. I am hoping to travel nurse to California but as I look for a company to travel with I have become overwhelmed at the choices. I know that they are all trying their best to attract nurses to work for them and honestly they all look like amazing companies, but I know that isn't always the truth. I am sure there are horrible companies and great ones to sign up with, and I guess that is why I am here. Is there any companies that I should absolutely should stay away from? I am looking for short contracts like 2-4 weeks, and once comfortable I may extend that. I do have my Nevada and Michigan license and in the midst of getting my California licence. I have 10 plus years experience in critical care and most recently as the charge nurse in that department. Thank you for your help in advance.
