  1. how would i go about shadowing at a hospital i am not working at?

  4. I am a new grad and I was able to get a job on a med/surg floor. I like it a lot, but feel that it is very hectic...(in canada there are no assistants so we do everything for the pts) Not that the U.S is any easier by any means..... Anyways i have always had a desire to work in the OR, but during school i stuck to all the floors for my clinical placements because i wanted to learn all the wound care, bedside care, etc. So i never had any placements in OR except for one day we all got to see one surgery....I loved the environment.... So i was planning on applying to an OR position while im currently working on med/surg... i was really excited about my decision. I told my parents and they said you have to have a certain personality for the OR and you have to be strong and very smart...... this just made me rethink my whole plan and now I'm very sad and don't know if i should apply to the OR....... is it very difficult? is it hard to adjust? are there strong personalities there?.......it was really my goal, but i feel like my parents are swaying me another way....

  6. I have just graduated and received my BScN, and I really have nothing holding me back from moving wherever I want. The area I am looking at has a lot of small hospitals, and i was thinking about working there for a year or two and then moving back home where there are large hospitals. My dilemma is, will the managers that interview me at the large hospital look down on the fact that I would have been working at a hospital with 21 acute care beds!? I am just worried that this decision will hinder my future job opportunities?
  7. Thanks for the insight MPKH!
  8. Hi, I have just graduated nursing (BScN) and I want to do rural nursing/northern nursing (hospital) as my first RN job. 2 Questions: 1) I want to eventually work at a hospital back in a big city but I would like to know if future employers there would look positively upon rural/northern nursing.... (I'm not sure if they would think that i won't be able to keep up at a fast paced since rural hospitals I'm looking at only have 15 beds, or that i haven't seen enough, etc, etc...) 2) Would i be prepared for rural/northern nursing right out of school, or should i start at a local hospital? Thank you all!
  9. Thanks everyone for all the information. Hopefully ill be able to find some work.
  10. sjamesrn - can I ask where you ended up moving? How was the whole process of moving and finding accommodations, etc.
  11. I am willing to work in a small town :)
  12. Would any of these agencies/companies provide housing?
  13. Hello, I am from Ontario and I am a new grad (RN). I really would like to work in Alberta or British Columbia. I have heard stories from people saying that other new grads have been able to find work in AB or BC and are making $40/hr. Now I have been researching a bit and have not come across any job postings that are for $40/hr. I'm not sure if you have to go through a specific agency to get this kind of pay. If anyone has worked in AB or BC could you give me some pointers on where to look or which agencies to use. Also, if you know where some of the better hospitals in AB or BC is I would love to know! Thank you!
  14. I will soon be on the neurology floor and wanted to know some of the common medications you see on the neuro floor so I can become more familiar with them
