Hello, I have been teaching full time in an ADN program for the last year. The schedule is fantastic especially if you have kids. It is pretty flexible, my program considers 35 hours a full time work week. Wee team teach (there are 4 total instructors) so none of us have to teach 2 days in a row. My schedule in a typical week before clinical starts is 7:15-7:30-3:30-4pm Mon-Thurs. I usually take Fridays off. I finished my last semester of MSN while I worked full time. It was an online program through Fort Hays State so I could do my school work on my own schedule. I also still work prn at a local hospital as a forensic nurse. The pay as a nurse educator is significantly lower than those who are in other positions (bed side, management, etc) however the flexible schedule, weekends, holidays, and summer off is worth it. I live in Wichita, KS and just started the FNP program this June. I'm taking Policy and Advocacy and and Foundations for Graduate studies. So far it doesn't seem too bad, lots of work but not a lot different then the program I was in before for a MSN nurse educator track. I think I'm nervous because there seems to be some negativity regarding Walden and their program. I've done a lot of reading and looked at a what a lot of people are saying about the program and I still don't know what to think. After participating in a conference call with one of my instructors I can say I don't feel Walden is just passing out degrees to anyone who gives them money. I hope in the end, all the money and the studying is worth it! Good luck with everything to all of you. I'll take any advice I can get about classes and about studying. I'm currently only prn at work so that helps, but I also am full time mom of 3.

Hi, My name is Ruthann and I'm starting the program June 3 as well. I'm in Wichita, KS. I'm a little apprehensive too. I've read a lot of reviews on the program at Walden and I'm hopeful that it is a good program and that I'll be able to find employment as a nurse practitioner once I'm graduated.
