Moving to New York need some advice please!
Hi all, I am originally from New York and moved to South Florida 6 years ago. About 3 years ago I went back to school and I will be graduating with my ASN in May 2015. After I graduate I will be moving back to New York out east on Long Island. My questions are: Should I test for the boards here in Florida or in New York. Also, I am interested in either Hospice or Long Term Care. Will it be hard for me to find a job as a new grad? What is the best way to get a job as a new grad? Are there websites to apply to or just send resumes to facilities? I would appreciate any advice I can get. Thank you so much in advance!

I am not an RN. I am currently in school, first semester to become one. I moved from Brooklyn to Boca Raton 5 years ago so I can comment on the living aspect not the job market. We moved down here to help out some family and they have recently passed. It is very expensive to live down here too. Gas, food, rent, etc.... is all comparable to NY. Unless you are talking about Manhattan then yes it is cheaper down here. Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island in my opinion is just as expensive as Florida. Luckily for me my husband works from home and kept his job in NY otherwise we couldn't make it with Florida salaries. I like living here for the weather, beaches, cleanliness and open spaces. Other than that it is pretty bad and we will probably relocate after I graduate. The people seem to be friendlier in NY if you can believe that haha. I miss the food and the change of seasons in NY. Of course with both states there are good and bad aspects. I hear nightmares about pay and no unions for nurses down here so I would definitely do a lottttttttt of research before making the big move. If it wasn't for family I would of been out of here 4 years ago haha. It is a great place to visit, just like NY, but both are very hard to live in. I hope this helps a little and good luck with everything! Rachel- pbsc fall 2013
Nothing yet! Good luck everyone :)- pbsc fall 2013
Krystal, Thank you so much for all the info :). I just received an email that my application is complete and I can view my points online. I guess after June 1st it will take 3-4 weeks to hear something.- pbsc fall 2013
Chilly, I got a 95 on my first try for the procalc. It's not that bad. There is a study guide on our schools website and if you just study that you should be fine. Just have to know certain conversions. There are practice and learning exercises on PrivateGuru - Jules' Master Classes in Drug Calculations.- pbsc fall 2013
Do you know how she passed? I almost took her for the summer pharm class so sad. I hear a lot about how much work the program is. I'm glad you are half way there and doing well and enjoying the program. Thanks for sharing :). I hope the cut off for Fall stays the same, I am a bit nervous with my 26.4.- pbsc fall 2013
How was your first semester? If you don't mind me asking how many points did you have when you applied and do you know what the cut off was? I submitted my application with 26.4.
